Having just played it, I can assure you that it is indeed a space combat game.

With respect to World of Warcraft, the game while not popular in this forum has many solid game mechanics as well as design features. It's wildly popular for a reason. It's easy to learn how to play, difficult to master and you can either spend a half hour or 8 hours playing without feeling as though you are completely and utterly lost. I go through spurts myself of hating and loving the game, but simply put, I keep re-subscribing and I am a difficult gamer to keep happy. So that says alot.

Jumpgate had all that except the easy to learn bit. So theoretically you can just make it easier to learn without dumbing down the whole game.

I would love to hear about the solid game mechanics and solid design features in Warcraft.... I personally have found it to be a repetative button mashing where you just use the same skills over and over and hope your dice roll better then the other guy's.

I find the quests dull, for example, how many times does that dragon queen lady get killed in a day? You'd think she'd learn. Most of the content is only available to people who are willing to devote their life to the game and sign their souls over to their guild. 40 man raids? Come on, why does that even need to happen? Getting 40 people who can all play an 8 hour raid is like starting a small company.

I haven't played Warcraft in over a year, maybe they changed some of those designs. But I have friends who can no longer hang out because they "have" to dedicate 8 hours to their guild every Saturday. That, to me, is not a solid design.

Did you fill up a tow with Uranium and try yet? That was my favorite. The hardest parts of the game were the best....It may have been Jump(Demon) who made me do that too...I don't really remember, I just remember that I was timed (or told that I was) and was lucky to not hit anything....or any flux!

Hauling a Tow full of Uranium in a convoy full of wise ass squad mates was the best. Especially if someone missed the gate.

That really doesn't mean much, people could say WoW is a fantasy combat game. It'd be a real shame if PvPers and FPS players were fooled into thinking the term "space combat" actually meant "balanced PvP play"

I just remember that Hurricane didn't like my "Haulin Ass" banner I made (a MACK truck with big ole thrusters instead of wheels....with a picture of an ass on the flatbed) and that was the beginning of the end of my time in there, I think I was a bit too dirty for a family minded crew. :-)
