There will be web outages later in the month, which are expected to be lengthy. Further bulletins will appear here as more progress is made.

Re: Jumpgate Colocation Change Coming

uh.. what exactly is a "colocation provider"? I gather from the context and syntax that it has something to do with the machinery the game runs on and it sounds like all the machinery will be in the same place. Why wasn't all the machinery in the same place to start with? Or was it? Would someone like to explain it to this moron please?

The posibility that I would be able to run both Classic and Evolution on the same machine is great. It gives me an even better excuse to get a new computer and get one with Vista. The idea that Jumpgate will somehow be better is even more wonderful.

Well, lets start out by explaining what a colocation is. A colocation facility is a place where servers are put together and are given an enormous internet connection, which is most of the time connected straight into the internet's backbone. Some colocations will allow you to either rent one of their servers, and the bandwith that you need for whatever your serving (web, game, mail, other miscellaneous service), or you can purchase a server and only pay for the bandwidth your server uses.

Now I'm not quite sure, but I think the Jumpgate Classic server is either still in Scorch's basement(unlikely) or it's at their main office. Either way, the transplant really should show us some drastic improvement over the old equipment and the new facility it will be going into.

Re: Jumpgate Colocation Change Coming

They all play great now with the recent updates. And I can use more than 3 GB of memory.

It's fine as long as you have the newer hardware. The problem with Jumpgate is the 16 bit installer won't run on a 64 bit system. And I can't afford another OS for dual boot. I'm sure they will work it out for Jumpgate Evolution but I don't have hopes for Jumpgate.

What games do you have that require more than 3 gigs of ram?!

Re: Jumpgate Colocation Change Coming

They don't but Vista requires a lot and many games aproach 2 Gigs and that causes issues. Heck, even Railroads used 2 gigs when I played it with my kid. It would crash from running out of memory until I went to 64 and now I can use the whole 4 GB. Things have just been much smoother since I went to 64. I am playing Bioshock and WIC with no issues.

Plus, when 32 bit limits you to 3 GB it includes your video memory in that so your screwed.

I've had so many nightmares supporting vista32 that x64 scares me

Re: Jumpgate Colocation Change Coming

Well, for me it was much smoother than 32 and there have been many compatibility updates recently that have smoothed things over.

Re: Jumpgate Colocation Change Coming

I don't know, I'm running a 512mb graphics card and 1 gig of system memory and I'm yet to see any problems. Then again, I wasnt stupid enough to jump on the vista bandwagon either

Re: Jumpgate Colocation Change Coming

Well, thanks for calling me stupid. However, I have found no reason to think it was stupid. I am having no issues and playing the latest games at their highest settings.
