The ship comes with the normal equipement, you can modify it in some way, perhaps my equipment modx idea? Then of coarse there is the stupid thorn +2 crafting system which seems to have been greenlighted, so that too I guess.

So my question is. Does this mean if we want optimal PvP loudouts we now have to hunt down a pos/person selling the thorn +2 and we can't just pick that up from the normal stations?
i think whats going to happen is that those crafters will 'craft' those items then haul them to the main stations to sell, so the economy will be more player driven that way i believe. theyve already said they were planning on going to an 'auction' style

Re: Jumpgate Evolution: Some Observations of The Meet and Greet at GDC 2008.

Some people have gone to other websites and misquoted the context of this thread and it's contents. I know it feels good to be the big time topic starter at your favorite forum but with that comes responsibility. Do not quote me if you are going to make up stuff and go your own way. This thread is here to give members of this site an idea of our experience meeting NetDevil at GDC. It is not meant as a definitive source of what is and isn't going to be in Jumpgate Evolution. If you want to be the big topic hero on another site then make your own shit up and don't quote us. We will not validate you.

I will repeat, we did not say there is no more hauling in Jumpgate Evolution. We said that faction stations where going to have a different purpose in Jumpgate Evolution and squads like -=MACK=- were not going to have their profitable equipment runs between them any more. I don't know how much more clear we have to be. There are plenty of things to haul in Jumpgate Evolution that's why there are pics of a double tow eh? It's just going to be different with equipment and faction stations.

Do I need to explain it again?

This is why I really didn't want to write anything at all. Because even though most people read and discuss the text posted, some people will always read bit's and pieces to use for their own agenda.

Re: Jumpgate Evolution: Some Observations of The Meet and Greet at GDC 2008.

So just to clarify a bit:

-you will not be moving equipment from station to station, that is more for commodity movement. This is the traditional make money moving items from one station to another.

-however, you will be moving equipment, just from the other factories and back. Money for this will all be made from other players buying the equipment you haul, not stations.

So basically we have split the economy in two. Making money from the AI/Stations will be all about commodities (and more specifically commodities that are not used in equipment in any way). Making money from equipment will be 100% player based. Players make the equipment, players buy the equipment, players set the price of the equipment.

Also, I have noticed something mentioned that equipment is no longer part of the game. Not sure where this came from, ships have default equipment so that you can not be confused and make a ship that can not fly, but buying equipment is 100% part of the game still.

Thanks for the clarifications Scott.

The no equipment changes in ships thing has been going around for awhile now.

Nice write up Jump. I can see that I'm going to have to find another excuse to drop in on the folks at ND and take another peek down the rabbit hole...

I think you miss the point of reverse engineering. Starting from a blueprint and building something. That's engineering in the traditional sense, and it could represent the crafting portion of Jumpgate Evolution.

Reverse engineering is the exact opposite. You start with a product and attempt to generate a blueprint. It generally takes less money and effort than engineering something from scratch, but in the end what you generally end up with is something almost as good, but not quite.

I didn't miss the point. I gave an alternative.

Thanks for clearing it up Scorch.

Jump it wasn’t my intention to misquote you, I was merely voicing my concerns on the mater, the way it read in your report needed some clarification form ND which I know have and with that its nice to know its still going to be in there. I wasn’t going off on one of my *lets bash ND* crusades they way it read in your report was a bit scary but after asking the question on Jumpgate Evolution forum I got the answer I was after.

Your report was a good one and as I said before laid many of my gremlins to rest, now Scorch has clarified here and on Jumpgate Evolution forum I find something else to get concerned about.
