Jumpgate Evolutions Octavius Light Fighter to be called Talon
 
You heard it hear first, Talon is the name of this little baby eater. The lucky winner is Luke who entered the name Talon in our contest to name this ship. That is the US player Luke not the EU player Luke. I am not sure what Luke is going by on the Jumpgate Evolution site since that name was taken by the EU Luke. Oh it's all so confusing now isn't it. Whatever name or names you may call him, he will be receiving a signed concept art of this ship from NetDevil. If it looks as good as the Sol Starter ship that Winkkin won then it's going to look nice on his wall.
 
Congratulations on the win Luke. So will you be flying it or shooting it down?
 
From what I hear it was a close contest with Teeleton's Gryphon submission. But in the end, Talon won out. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall during that debate at NetDevil.
 
I think this calls for some live action screen shots. Everyone start chanting "screen shots, screen shots".

Ya, I'm Hamster on the other forum I'll be shooting it down if I can help it. If they totally overpower octs though, who knows, I might have to abuse it, like I did with Intensity. Thanks Jump. How about attaching an early beta invitation ?

Congrats Luke.

ND played it pretty safe with "Talon". Nothing wrong with the name, but pretty generic.

I'd like to suggest the following for other Oct ships:

Claw
Beak
Bird

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Talon is not bad but reminds me of the ship in Farscape. My next name suggestions will be Feather, Down, and Breast.

I think there was a ship from Privateer/Wing Commander that looked similar and was also called the Talon.

When you consider that the great majority of posters actually played, then i think we did consider the audience. We're it!

As for the latin well, how many English words are there for things that fly? We each got 3 choices so eventually we were gonna run out. And EUers don't always speak English. Come to think of it, neither do some Americans

BTW - Where does Talon come from again? Oh yeah - its a Celtic derivative

I have a signed print already. :P I'm happy you won. I agree some of the names were way to long/obscure, but there were a ton of "cooler" sounding non-generic names that ND should have used (excluding mine) in my opinion. A little creativity isn't going to cause the player base to quit.

Maybe a name somewhere between

bird<----generic

<happy middle ground>
