Good games for joysticks

I'm looking for a game that would adequately use a joystick. I want like a flight sim where maybe you could battle online against each other, or anything like that. Don't say battlefield because there is almost a 1 in 30 chance you'll actually get a plane. Thanks

Jumpgate 'classic' is a MMO hands on stick skill game based in space where you get to do all sorts of stuff online with for and against other players. Steep learning curve and a little hard on the nerves if your looking for pvp - it gets the adrenaline pumping like nothing else.

Evochron Alliance is another space based joystick flight sim, this ones a little diff in that you can play single player offline then go online with your credits etc and play against other players on player run servers (or run your own). Its aok, the universe is a little samey but you can import your own models for ships, planets etc, and create your own sectors. Good fun and some nice touches. Best tip for it is once youve some credits, buy freighters in the starting sector and take them as far as you dare to sell for big profits. Has atmospheric flight and planetary mining too.

Jumpgate Evolution - beta sign up only atm, no game to play yet.

If your looking for something strictly 'in an atmosphere' I havent a clue, I find I all down lots when gravity is about

If you don't mind a small playerbase, or realistic graphics, I'd seriously recommend the Descent series. The game has a hardcore fanbase and people still play the original game, and it's sequal onhttp://www.kali.net, even after more than 10 years. The first two have been ported to the three major OS'es since the release of the source code for both. The 3rd installment has clients for all 3 OS'es as well, (except the mac version only works with mac OS 9 or lower).

IIRC, and I probably don't there was a version of descent set in space with pretty decent physics and graphics (Descent: Freespace, I think). There were a bunch of others released around that time too, including one with a missile that created a miniature black hole...I always killed myself with that one

I loved descent though. I have great memories of playing it in the old Mac lab over our LAN way back in middle school. It was the first shooter I ever played, and only the third real game (first two were Sim City Classic and Lemmings)
