Its comments like this that makes my blood boil.

People need to be held responsible for their actions, and everyone else needs to stop pointing fingers and trying to make excuses for other people's actions.

Everyone has dark thoughts, you don't need a movie, or a game, or music to bring them out. If there were no games, no movies, no music, there would probably be more aggression as people would not have any "outlets" or "stress relief"

They are only stating the obvious, it really has a larger effect. You're probably so used to violence that you dont notice it but yes, movies, tv and video games do affect, and compared to 20 or 30 years ago, the effects are noticed a lot more.

It really is.

Folks do need to be held accountable for their actions.

Folks also need to understand that the things they experience affect their perception and thought processes.

TV and games = more violent people. They also make folks quite a bit less able to think for themselves

Re: I hate articles like this: Violent games

Perhaps if parents took larger roles in their children's lives it wouldn't be so much of an issue. As a father AND a gamer, we have a lot of toys in my house. The kids have their own computer, we have the 360 and a Wii but none of the games my 9 and 7 year old kids play are by any means violent. To the extent of, my son known better than to go his friends house where his moron friends mom has bought him Grand Theft Auto Vice City and play it. If it says M for Mature he doesn't play it (ahem, again). In fact, that friend doesn't play it anymore either now that I have educated his parents.

I get so sick of parents on the news and the games made my kids bad. How about taking an active interest in your kids. Educate yourself. If the game box has a picture of a guy in a mask that look like Jason holding the head the a human person with blood dripping off of it, use some common sense, it might not be the game for your 7 year old.

Re: I hate articles like this: Violent games

My thirteen year old son will still call from his friends house. "Dad, soandso is going to play "people butchering nekid chick monsters" can I play?" My reply is always "what do you think?" He finds it easier to say no if he calls Dad. I am happy to be the ass to his friends if it helps him make good choices. He would rather go to the park and play some football anyway.

It's just hard to find kids to play with that aren't sitting on their ass playing WoW all day. On our little section of the street, maybe 20 houses, my kids are the only ones to have ever played organized sports. From what I have seen they are also the only ones that ever heard the word no.

Re: I hate articles like this: Violent games

Yeah, Im not surprised by that. My son is in Cub Scouts, and some of the other kids that are in scouts frustrate the hell out of me. They have no concept of respect or discipline at all. We start out every meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Cub Scout Promise, and this boy is standing through the back of his chair, playing, not paying attention and I lean down and say to him, you know this is kind of important, you want to do this right? The kid tells me no. I just looked at him and said yes you do, get out of that chair now. He looks at me like hes never in his life been told do something.

We have been involved in Scouts now for 4 years, and I very quickly became the dad in charge of the fire pit at the camp outs because I kept the boys from throwing stuff in the fire. Sure its fun, but you got 8 year olds running at full speed directly to a fire with as much crap pine needles and junk as they can carry, and they try to stop just short of it to drop it in. First off, that crap creates lots of smoke, and it makes an unclean fire. I hate having to constantly move around a fire because the wind changes and the smoke gets in your face and its unbearable. If your just burning wood, its ok, but if your burning crap the smoke gets bad. Then you got multiple kids doing it, and it only takes one or two bumps and you got a kid falling into a fire with an arm full of kindling.

Some of the parents don't like it. "well MY kids know better, so they should be allowed to do what they want" no moron, unfortunately I can't let your kid throw stuff in the fire, because then I have to let all the kids throw stuff in the fire now don't I?
