Re: I'm in trouble now!
(You mean that you are vulnerable to wanting to get a bunch of upgrades? Or you are vulnerable to a new virus called STEAM because you are using old stuff?)

Re: I'm in trouble now!
No kidding, I've just bought three games via Steam in the last month. I've had it for some time as I bought the Half Life 2 (boxed) and, of course, it gets installed automatically.
However, recently I upgraded by PC (or more accurately replaced practically every component, it was that out of date) and I thought I'd play Half Life 2 again with maximum detail because now I could. Of course, I then had to purchase Episode One, and then there was this puzzle game called Peggle which proved rather addictive, and ridiculously cheap. And now I've just bought X2/X3 for $24.95. Yes, I know. Although I played X:BTF, I never really got into it so I never bothered with the sequels. But all the talk of Jumpgate Evolution made me want to play a space game again so I figured these two games will plug the gap. (I nearly resubscribed to EVE, but my better judgement won out.) I'm now dreading what the next game to appear on Steam will be. It is just too easy. |

Re: I'm in trouble now!
That's a lot of games. I downloaded SM's Railroads because my boys wanted to play it. We used to do the first one together but the later ones would not run on my old system too well. This new version is a memory hog and was crashing like crazy in Vista so I had to hack the exe file. Now it works great. I had to do the same thing to Supreme Commander since that one is a memory hog as well.

Peggle and Geometry Wars ftw -- at least until the Orange Box comes out. Gimme my Portal and TF2 already!
Distributing Jumpgate in any form over Steam sounds like a good idea to me. |

Re: I'm in trouble now!
Well Jump got me in trouble tooo..!!!
Last night I ventured on over to Steam and found that they had Civ IV. Looks kind cool so I decided I wanted to play. Downloaded Steam, bought the game which then downloaded. Hit launch and well, nothing exciting happened. It doesn't seem to work! I get Preparing to Launch screen but that's it. (on my 2000 machine) After fiddling around for a couple of hours and not getting anywhere, (adware scan, spy-bot scan, disable Nortons) I decided to go try thing on the XP machine. Same problem. Preparing to launch then....... nothing. I dug around inside of Steam folder and found civ IV, tried to run the exe for just the came and it came back telling me it couldn't find the d3dx9_32.dll or something to that effect. I'll fight with it some more tonight and probibly end up spend hours e-mailing support to get this dang thing working! I should have just bought the game if infogames and been done. ![]() |
