Eureka...Is it going down hill? (spoilers)
I'm not sure who else here watches Eureka, but up until recently I was fairly fond of this show. I thought it was a nice light-hearted sci-fi show that anyone could get into without having to be overly techno-geeky.
Well, Eureka has jumped the shark IMO. (For those of you who don't know the reference) I'm all for in-show advertising if it's non-obtrusive and fits with the setting. Eureka had the perfect opportunity and even introduced it in a good way (having Eva say that GD was getting corporate sponsorship to fund research). They made commercials featuring the Eureka characters and had some "cameo" appearances of the logo and product. Good funding model IMO. Then they went from non-obtrusive but conspicuous product/logo placement to using the product as a focal point in the show. Writing an episode all about Degree deodorant is bad enough, but incorporating the slogans of the product into the character dialog not once, not twice, but at least 3 times by my count? That kind of obtrusive product placement ruins my enjoyment of the show. I suppose the biggest deal wasn't the slipping in of "Degree" slogans, nor even using the product as a way to defeat metal-melting heat...but the fact that in order to write the episode around the product, they left stupidly wide gaping holes that can't even be "suspension of disbelief". A Metal building melts...but a human only a few feet away is fine? Rubber tires on a car melt, but the shoes of the people in the car are fine when they get out and walk around? A sun is created 1000 feet over a "secret" research facility but no one sees it except for the town? The list goes on and on. <general rant about the show> The show itself is declining in quality too. New permanent supporting characters keep getting introduced. Doesn't anyone find it odd that the Sheriff's wacko sister is allowed to just wander into this top secret town and live there? How about his ex-wife or daughter? Don't you think that the DOD would have a problem with people just randomly moving to their top-secret town? All of a sudden everyone just spontaneously forgives Henry and his transgressions are never mentioned again...hell, let's elect the man mayor? They even act like the mayor has some say over the sheriff's job...you know, the Federal Marshall appointed by the DOD? Every single supporting character has to have lines in every show just to show they're still there? The sub-plots involve characters doing things that are totally "out of character" for them, yet at the end of the episode they realize how wrong it was and everything is back to normal? Come on. </general rant about the show> I'm a pretty easy person to understand. I choose my deodorant the way I would think most do. Cost and Quality, not how many times I see it in a TV show. I'm glad when a product helps fund shows I like and all other things being equal, I would purchase that brand. When a brand (in my eyes) ruins one of my favorite shows with invasive advertising they get the opposite effect. Anyone else watch Eureka and agree/disagree with me, or am I just blowing hot air here? |

One cant understand why they keep a show like that and then shut down SG Atlantis
I also watched some episodes of Eureka but SGA catched my attention a LOT more. But the rumours keep going about the show has been cancelled..... anyways, sorry for the hijack. |

I'm sure they explained it though since I'm most likely not the first to ask the question, does anyone know? |

Id say its off-topic :P but as I did too.... I dont remember reading about it. I'm not a SGA fanatic as to knowing everything but if it should be explained somewhere it would be on the SG1 series, which is where it first appeared, not SGA (SGA's pilot was based off antarctica, I do remember there was an ancient chair there but dont remember seing a gate).

retinas have fun with 120" images :P
I love NASCAR Of course I like the crashes, they are so mind blowing, where else you get to see a car fly like in Talladega? but I like the drama as well and compared to F1 where the best car is always untouchable (unless ur a moron driving it) in NASCAR there are always 10-20 cars capable of winning. And as Juan Pablo Montoya said, Nascar cars are far more complicated (engineering wise) than what most of the folks know. I agree, some oval races are snoozers, particularly Fontana and others like that, but watch Dover, Bristol, Darlington and Martinsville and door bangin' and heavy contact is the norm. Races are too long too and many people debate on if they should keep being as long as they are. I guess thats one of the reasons why people like watching the Craftsman series, events are like 1 hour or 1 and a half hours instead of the 4 to 5 hours of the Sprint Cup series. But I do love it, mostly for the crashes but I like watching who's where on the standings and such. F1 to me is boring, the follow the leader game is not for me. To me, the most exhilarating racing to see is Rally, that is the best, I have many rally compilations which I love to see (of course, rally crashes are fun too) |

Not cuttin' it - NASCAR - Yahoo! Sports
U might want to read this, is about the 1.5 milers that made Nascar racing boring, trying to emulate the success of Lowe's. |
