Re: The New Enterprise? Maybe....
lol, it might be, but the guy who designed it is not talking. Its designed by a guy named Gabe Koerner
he has done some excellent work for Galactica. Index of /ent <---- lots of links to unredered pics of the above starship. He is an awesome modeler. He hangs out over at Trekweb and STReborn. |

Re: The New Enterprise? Maybe....
What a bizarre shape for a ship. All those odd angles and swooping corners just _scream_ "wasted space".
Plus, talk about about your structural weak points. And why not just paint a big 'ol target right over the bridge? Why would you ever put the bridge anywhere near the outside of a ship (unless you designed such a goofy monstrosity that _everything_ is near the outside of a ship)? Why not tuck it way down in some heavily protected guts so that every incoming attack doesn't send sparks flying and [apparently] useless beams collapsing on crew members who have no names? And what do the elevator shafts have to look like? Angled shafts? Yeah, brilliant idea. That's not an insane misappropriation of resources. Anyway. it's very cute, and i'm sure it won't get blown up in the end. Maybe if they made a good one, they could use the same ship twice in a row, huh? |

Re: The New Enterprise? Maybe....
Actually the bridge on just about all warships is located high on the mast and exposed, so that's not really a misnomer. Most of the command & control is done from the CIC anyway (which trekkies would recall as the "battle bridge" in the series), an aspect of naval warfare that star trek got right at first, then screwed it up by having the crew fight from the bridge rather than a more secure location.

Quote:
They had this big view screen in star trek, so that screen could be mounted anywhere. No need for windows. We might put CIC stuff in a prominent, exposed place now, but only out of necessity. Take away that necessity through the use of fancy cameras and a view screen, and boom.. back down in the bunker with your CIC staff. |

So the location of the bridge on the enterpirse isn't necessarily out of place, but the fact that practically the entire command staff of the ship is seemingly always there, even during battle, is a mistake. |
