Is awesome! Not perfect mind you, but the cast, characters, ships, story, all pretty good.

The guy that they got for Bones was spot on. The performances for Kirk and Spock were both great as well. And the space battles were really well done.

Glad you enjoyed it, I'm sure it was full of exciting action. I'll wait for the rental though. From what I've seen and read it's more like the star wars genre than star trek. I doubt ole Gene would have approved the concept.

How do they deal with the fact that none of the original characters had these pasts histories?

Some of us like what was done in the original vision of star trek. Doesn't make us old. I also like star wars and it's action. I don't need to embrace every financial endever to suck money from the masses just to be young. It's kind of like when we like the old jumpgate vs the new for the masses evolution. Star Trek was great, really well done.

Abrams and his team did a really fantastic job with it. I expected no less, considering the brilliance of Lost.

Who here didn't the tv shows were all well done for there time and each was better then the last.

The movies on the other hand not so much. Putting some of the movies in the hands of actors was a mistake and all though I enjoyed them when they came out I don't own any of them because they are not worth the cash for a second viewing.

What makes you old jump is you notion that the new generation of film makers can't live up to the "vision" of the original. I just got back from seeing the new movie and I can say that yes they can!!. This movie hopefully lays down the foundation for a new series of star trek movies that I would actually buy. With way way way way Better acting and writing.

Just like TNG was miles above the original so is this movie miles above the previous ones.

I just watched it...It wasn't a "bad" movie, but I'm not a Trekkie. It definitely wasn't the "Star Trek" I remember that always seemed to be more about character development and story....this one seemed to be more about big booms and gun-fights as evidenced by the sheer number of torpedoes and phasers fired at once.
