Re: Space: Above and Beyond.

It was a pretty good show, but it was on Fox, and lets face it, Fox doesn't exactly have a great track record with good television shows not being canceled on their network. Family Guy, Futurama, Arrested Development, Firefly just to name a few.

SAaB was did have a couple of problems though. I never liked the storyline they opened with that had the Hawkes character (the young pilot with the "nipple neck") getting into trouble and having to choose between jail and the Marines. Yes, that happened in the past. But it doesn't happen now, I don't foresee it happening in the future, and I certainly don't see them then putting the guy into the cockpit of a fighter?? Those are the guys they turn into ground pounding grunts. Which yeah, the pilots in the show did missions like that too, which was odd, which they try to explain, but again, not quite right in the real Marine Corps.

At the time, I thought there was plenty of story to keep them in the cockpit on a weekly basis. That wasn't it at all. There was PLENTY of STORY to do that, there just wasn't plenty of MONEY to keep them in cockpit on a weekly FX basis. Hilarious I know.

I hate how this show ends though. It just ends. Thats it, show over, no more. You don't know what else happens. I think it reminds me most of the TV show Tour of Duty which also just ended in its 3rd season with half the platoon in combat leaving you going "now what?". Imagine if Star Trek Next Gen ended with the Borg kidnapping Picard and Riker saying "Fire".

sucks eh?

Re: Space: Above and Beyond.

yeah sucks.. so many good scifi shows getting canceled. I guess most ppl like to watch Hospital and Police shows.. and CIS.. wtf.. do we need 3-4? different CIS.. and wow, how unrealistic show.

Re: Space: Above and Beyond.

It was an interesting show that was basically a ripoff of Starship Troppers. I liked the premise but found the scripts and acting rather weak.

Re: Space: Above and Beyond.

Except it was made years before the Starship Troopers MOVIE, which for some people means before it existed. Lets face it, 80% of people probably wouldn't recognize a book if you hit them with it.

Hmm, I thought the showe came out around the same time as the movie, but the show was 95/96 and the movie was 97. Have to re-watch it sometime. Maybe I'll spring for the DVD set.

Re: Space: Above and Beyond.

I only got to see a couple episodes of this show. Sad how Fox immediately consigns all their Sci-Fi shows to Friday night obscurity... And then cancels them for not pulling in the ratings their midweek programs get.
