It depends on what codecs are available and which ones other people use. If everyone uses a crap codec but you it will still sound like crap.

Meh. I've been on dozens of different TS/Vent servers, and even with good codecs both programs still sound shitty. It really doesn't matter which you use. People try to claim one sounds better than the other all the time but it really doesn't make a difference.
