Re: While you are waiting for Jumpgate Evolution!
Jump and et al:
I am in Day 3 within taikodom and just had to chance to spend about 15 minutes with one of the game developers @Deus_Machima .. (all GMs are tagged with the @ in front of their names).. He asked me about similarities between Jumpgate and their game they are testing... Went on to talk about this game was built in Portugal and hence the English and Portuguese prevalent in the forums and on the Global chat. I told him I noticed the lack of good documentation, but I noticed 5 things that jumped out at me: 1. Graphics 2. Ease of use - I got into the ship and started flying right away. I am unsure if that is due to my Jumpgate training with a keyboard and mouse or its really that easy. 3. They have 3 safe zones and after that its all PVP. There is no PVP on or PVP off switch. I asked Deus about that and how their community discussed it. It is interesting to note that they too had a HUGE war over the very same things we have been fighting about and the ultimate solution was to simply build safe zones with some pretty extreme and badass AI... Yes you see them flying everywhere.. The safe zones are centrally located. 4. No levels, you have to grind money to get better ships and equip. 5. Skill is required, equip will not get you by. Their radar system is confusing at first (even invasive at times) but once you make the adjustment its pretty easy and most of all its discrimiatory. I have not gotten to the point of PvP because I am still working on my aim but the mouse sensitivity needs some serious adjustment. The content: The content is QUITE a bit. They have sectors under the state of war that contains extremely dangerous AI and players (pirates). Pirates are quite prevalent and Devs warn to be on guard ... Especially in Venus after coming out of the Terra Node (a Safe Zone). Their missions tie into a storyline that is pretty solid. The factions are called Corporations and takes about 50k and 5 players to form. I havent gotten a handle on who and what each of the Corps do but there are some serious battles taking place. In my discussion with Deus, they are still working the network latency issues but my ping was pretty good (I dunno if their servers are in Portugal or not). You can fly from a 3rd person or 1st person perspective but Deus clearly admitted that their joystick support still needs work. In sum: Pros: -- Good content -- Easy flight mechanics -- Great tutorial -- Great graphics without needing special cards Cons: -- Linguistics -- Does chew up a lot of memory after a long period of play -- Joystick support -- Piracy is prevalent They do have a JOSSH like interface http://portal.taikodom.com/ranking .. I will continue to play and learn more to report back. -- |

Re: While you are waiting for Jumpgate Evolution!
Ok more information (its nice when you are on a self-imposed vacation hehe)
Most joysticks are supported. A new build is coming out on Jan 14th with a new hud and new missions.... Seems like the Tac folks are waiting for more US folks to join up too... I think they were mentioning you this morning Trit... Also if AI invaders enter a sector, a terrorist alert goes out.... Their community is EXTREMELY nice. English and Portuguese are the main languages but if you speak Spanish thats good also. They are very happy to see some of us joining up and the Developers definitely want to get our take on things.... I have complete about 9 missions now... There are 5 main areas with a minimum of 2 sectors in each (with the most dangerous and unexplored area being about 2 sectors deep). KEEP in MIND that the beta server is available from 12:00pm - 12:00 am GMT -2 which translates into Brunswick Time Zone I think. It is nice to have a Jumpgate alternate while we wait for Jumpgate Evolution (are we there yet) and I think this will be a nice alternate for us as a community. They have truckers (I am to speak with one of the main trucking corporations later this afternoon to find out how they haul and mine). By the way mining is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY easier than Jumpgate. You can mine with your guns by simply shooting the moving rocks... You can also target asteroids. Once you shoot the asteroids, the Roids drops ores as loot. Nice not to have to rotate around a rock.... And the Roids respawn pretty fast. |

Ok some other things I have learned. I have now joined a Corporation called: DeathLaw... It features some of the game's best pilots and they help everyone. I went from flying a hooptie to flying a bad ass Barracuda (NO not the damn Solrain bomber). Speaking of which bombers in this game pwns fighters.... Borgue, who is the leader of DeathLaw, the best pilot in the game, Top Gun, Top Assassin, is a really good guy who likes a good fight. He is wanting to bring Jumpgate folks into the Corporation to form a big time power house (there are a few other powerhouses flying around). I will be DeathLaw's English training officer, and since it should take any JGer 5 minutes to learn how to fly... I will get you suited up with a fighting (or hauling) ship after you have had your first 7 missions. Jumpgate folks dont need that much training the flight mechanics are so similar its scary. If you do get lag, I can post some of the adjustments I have made in game. The NPCS are just as good as the players (I aint BSing around). They dont have flashfires but they have a Cruise Speed that you can use unlimited that lets you fly from your top speed to roughly 250% increase... Which means you can ZOOM across a sector (remember everyone can do it too)... I was taken to this sector... Look how beautiful it is: ![]() |

Re: While you are waiting for Jumpgate Evolution!
Ok, where would the 'options' or something like that be, so I can try to get some settings that I can run the game with out locking up/loading SUPER slow.

Re: While you are waiting for Jumpgate Evolution!
tstrike said you can use 1p or 3p view to fly up there, post 17. My only issue with it is that my comp is AT the min requirements, and it seems to be tough on the comp. lot's of long load times/waiting/slow response on some things, etc.
