I don't know if it was because I finally sent enough pizza, or if the Jumpgate Evolution team just got tired of having pizzas delivered to their office, but it finally paid off. I must have spent a good 20 minutes staring at the e-mail before coming to my senses enough to boot up Jumpgate.

Dear GrimGriz,
Due to your passion for the game over the years, particularly in the well thought out suggestions department, we've chosen you to test the new Quantar heavy miner. As we can't allow you onto the Jumpgate Evolution servers until beta officially begins, we've modified your current Jumpgate account. Please send us at least a full page of feedback by Monday. Enjoy!!

I have to say, my first reaction was "Damn the new quant ships are ugly." It seemed like the thing was locust-themed. I was pretty thoroughly disappointed until I realized that what I thought were spindly locust back legs jutting up were the barrels of the heavy miners turret. I did a happy dance.
About 20 minutes later, I was flying the thing towards Aman Gate. It's turn rate wasn't particularly impressive, but the acceleration was nice. It wasn't much in the top speed department, but the acceleration was there. I could wait to see how it handled with a full load of ore.
I was able to orbit mine the big roids in it, but I kept falling off the small ones due to the turn rate. I had mentioned in chat that I'd be mining in aman gate, and that I didn't wished to be bothered...so, soon enough, some stupid oct came by. He flew up to me in his nix and circled the ship. I wasn't sure if it looked like a regular miner to him, or if it was showing to everyone as what it was. When I read what he said on f3, I knew he thought it was a normal heavy miner.
"Pay or Die! 2 mil!!"
I responded at first with "just a second!" as i hurriedly slammed a bunch of keys to figure out which one was the switch-to-turret button. Once I had found it I rotated the massive cannons to point directly at his still ship. That's when I said...
"Leave Me Alone or Die!!"
After a slight pause, in which I can only assume he was chuckling and typing, he responded "hahaha, pay or die noob!!" and squeezed a volley into my shields to prove that he meant it.
I gave my shields a few seconds to recharge, and long enough for the server to report his temp bounty to me. Then I opened fire with the turret. It made a lovely reassuring THUNK-THUNK-THUNK sound as his shields flared and quickly dropped. He must have been surprised because he was deep into armor by the time he hit the flashfire button. I dropped a hellrazor in his general direction and made to dock at my POS. I didn't want to deal with the F4s I was about to get
