Ammo guns in Jumpgate

I don't recall ammo users being able to hit ships quite so effectively as they hit me over the past week. So I figure one of two things is happeing:
1) I'm in a phoon, and it's far more easy to hit than the Tens I'm used to, or
2) Ammo speed was boosted a year ago when the weapons were rebalanced, and I never noticed.

Anyone have any thoughts?

As of 1.0086 (Apr '04), ammo guns are, in general, a good bit faster than they previously were, with railgun weapons ('Rak, HM, Flail) up to 2600m/s, from 2200, machineguns up by ~50%, and faster mortars (I forget the increase levels, offhand).

Lasers are still more viable for PvP than ammo, but the gap isn't quite as great as it was, and if you're not paying attention those ammo users can pop you more easily than they could in the past.

1) Yes, the phoon is a MUCH larger target with no "holes" like the nix has around the wings and the tens has in the banana area and ****pit area. Catch me in game for a quick lesson in phoon ammo evasives (fun for leading ammo users on a merry chase while your wingmen kill them).

2) Yes, ammo was sped up. Rails were sped up to 2600 and mostly made into quicker refire guns with less damage per hit (hitman excluded). Mortars were sped up to 3k but then nerfed back to 2200. Some other ammo types were sped up, but still suck. Serials were made sz2 and raised to Nova speed, not that they have any pvp value.
