Jumpgate seems laggy....

Is there any way to test my ping.

I went fluxxing last night with a guy on the east coast, and we were having major lag problems, his hits were not showing on flux, my ammo hits would lag and hit late, and none of the ship movements matched what was going on (like pointing and hittig flux actually looked like shooting randomly away and flux was not being hit)

Is this normal?

Re: Jumpgate seems laggy....

I wouldnt say is normal, but since Ive been asking this question about the performance change after the cutover.... and nobody seems like throwing some light... I'll have to wait.

Far as I know, no other way to measure ping as we had before, new network code... and new servers and new pipeline... should be better.

Maybe it was just one night?

Re: Jumpgate seems laggy....

Some games have inherent lag on certain wireless networks for some reason. Try connecting directly into your modem with a cable as a solution test maybe?

I know for WoW I would get huge lag spikes over my wireless network but none when hardwired in. Hmm... that has me thinking... I wonder if my wireless network is messing with my Jumpgate too. I have been having this weird thing happen to me while PvPing. I know I suck and all but I will shoot at opponents and continually see their shields flashing A LOT and only get their shields to like 90% if i'm lucky.

When I practice with players in the sim it's fine but in real space what I am seeing and what is happening don't seem to correlate. I'm gonna investigate this more... but anyway if your on a wireless network it's worth a shot checking.

Re: Jumpgate seems laggy....

I'm hardwired, my computer has a great internet connection, it not me.

What your telling me about RS vs Sim kind of confirms what I'm thinking...

@ Elp

I haven't really noticed any changes one way or the other, but then again I don't really have much to base it on.
I find it amusing that ND's response to lag seems to have been removing the ability of the pilot to check their ping etc. Only online game I play that doesn't allow this, must be a new advancement in online gaming
If it wasn't so ironically amusing I may even allow myself to get annoyed by it.

Regards
Al
