Anyone get this? (A developer journal).
Which can be located over at "Jumpgate Feature" sections at MMORPG.com.
It can also be commented at this forum thread. I don't know if anyone got this. Jumpgate can also be seen temporarly on the frontpage over at mmorpg.com. |

I have a question. It looks like 3D0 pooched things fairly early on, and that only the contract for AutoAssault kept NetDevil from folding completely. I now understand that they pulled most staff off of JumpGate and put them onto AA. What I don’t understand is…why leave anyone on Jumpgate at all? If Auto Assault was the big money, why not just cut Jumpgate losses and put ALL staff on AA? Why keep it alive all these years with just a skeleton crew? Does it really bring in THAT much money?
Don’t get me wrong, I like the fact that Jumpgate exists! I guess what I’m searching for is…have they kept it alive so long so that they can actually promote it properly at some point? (I know, the graphics are old, etc. Still a game worth playing!) Why still work so hard on major changes like AI and factional warfare? Like many of us, I hold hope for a rebirth. Any thoughts, folks? Johnny |

JumpGate is the pet project of a NetDevil founder, who has openly stated that he will keep the game going as long as he can afford to. I suspect the game is just about keeping even with expenses, so it does no harm to keep it going. And doing so helps maintain at least a small fanbase for NetDevil.

Maybe NetDevil can get ahold of something like this.
http://www.fl-tw.com/Infinity/index.php Its called Infinity, and if it actually gets released, it'll be Jumpgate on a massive scale. Also, be sure to check out the movies, those graphics are just amazing. |

I've started logging the names of online pilots for the "last seen" feature of my own Jumpgate fansite. Usually there are around 600 (+/- 10%) different pilots online during the period of one month. Assuming the number of trial accounts and the number of paid accounts who just didn't log in during that time are roughly equal (though I personally believe there are far more paid but unplaying accounts), this would yield a gross income of USD 9.95 x 600.
Considering that taxes, the bandwidth, Istvan's salary and the fees for payment processing have to be paid from this, it must be very close to just breaking even (perhaps even below in some months). |

We can only hope!
Adding a Planetside style of squad combat would be great but I don't think the terrain generator would be up to it though. I couldn't imagine how empty the game would feel with hundreds of worlds. Limit it to a star system and you still have a massive gaming universe. |
