Hehe.
I find on some forums speaking the truth and being honest tends to get you banned.
A simple full spot is usually safe at these times, and ultimately all that is nescessary.

Al

My favorite was always the
Civ bounty hunting whine. The ole, I ripped a miner in reg space, and you come after my bounty civ so me and my 6 friends can't rip you without further penalty waaa - thing.

well, algore, it depends on if 'speaking the truth' necessitates being an idiot, which is what your squadmates were doing at the time of their bans... truth be told. Not saying that i don't agree with you guys that there is excessive whining going on, but, it wasn't just one side either.

YouWhat got banned on purpose for an experiment. Magnus got banned in error, it should have been Mongo imo. We were taking bets so to speak to see how quickly he could achieve it, would have been less than 4 hours I guess had there been someone with banning powers on.
The game has pretty much turned into a farce for us, the forums more so, thus we treat it in such a way. I can see now why all the great pvp'ers that I used to play with before the merger stopped playing.
I may be an arrogant little sod, but I know my place in the pvp world, and find it hard to stay quiet when those less able/experienced bull**** to the masses.
People gank and get ganked, I get ganked every fight in my Nix even if my side has more. Those less experienced don't get that offal though, the people that do that are left about here don't generally speak up as they don't want to lose their "cool" image.
Concerned Octavians Communicating Knowledge, or C.O.C.K was aimed at the usual stupid people that reply all the time. It served it's purpose with some of the usual people being retarded enough to respond.
Everyone whines, it's the nature of the beast. But if I think you are full of poop I'll tell you, not lick your hiney to be in your gang or look cool. Would you prefer I was open or deceitful?
If that gets me banned so be it. I'll not be the first, but I anticipate if I go so will a few more. The server can have fun shooting open space then, and get back to their mining and back slapping.
Admittedly the line has been overstepped a few times, but frustration at idiocracy can cause this.

Regards
Itchy finger Al

Sorry to hear this. I tend to agree on the forums front, they are continually a detriment to the game (not the forums themselves, of course, but the "contributors.") Are all game forums that bad?

I hope OV's feelings toward the game (i.e. as farce) will not turn into something ugly.

Forums create interest in the game. Whines or no whines, they still create interest. Without interest then the game dies.
Balrog create interest, UB did the same, same as WOW.
OV ain't griefers, we are must unlikely to go out with a bang, just fade away and make it less entertaining for others.
You don't realise how good you got it until it's gone....................

Of course you don't need to be deceitful. But, as you admitted, the line was crossed a couple times (apparently on purpose). Of course, I feel that 'the other side' crossed the line a few times themselves. It really just seems to me that the two squads hate each other IC and OOC. Of course, the flames between you guys on the forum have gone down a bit recently, as people are distracted flaming about the FM deal lol. Well, anyways, i guess what i am trying to say is, if your people are going around trying to get banned... well, they'll get banned. And really, what does that prove? On a seperate subject, why, when people 'RP', does it always seem to involve roid rage?

On a completely different note than the rest of the thread,

While I tend to absolutely love civ bounty hunting, it does have some negative effects. While sure, it makes it impossible to win if you're the hunted, this won't necessarily give the hunter his justice. Since losing is inevitable, the hunted will just log off or fly another account, etc, etc, which kinda defeats the purpose...

There's 2 sides to every coin. Civ bounty hunting being lame or being justified is pretty context dependent, which is a major failing of the entire HG/civ/bounty/unreg/reg system.

Like spork said it's context dependant. It also depends on the purpose. Most often when I got whines about it, it was when the bountied person was with a group of decent or better pvpers, and felt they could civ rip and be untouched. It generally was me and maybe 1 or 2 others (some refusing to go civ) versus 5-6 people with 1 bountied. They'd cry about how lame I was being, and then the friends would armor me and let the guy who already had negative PR take the kill shot. I didn't mind a whole lot, since due to lag and such the friends were taking a risk of throwing their PR away too.

My purpose was always to make carrying a bounty a pain in the arse. I figured if being bountied became a hassle, they'd do it only when it mattered (a equipment loaded tow, etc).

Who knows? The next patch is likely to make the whole thing moot anyway.

Well, one cannot deny lines were crossed, and some bans were handed out as a result. However, I do agree with AlGore on a main point - that the ban of Magnus-Ex was complete and total bull, and that GMK should have NEVER done that. YouWhat, sure. Bad Mongo, maybe. But Magnus hardly contributed, and though he was over lines I don't think something as severe as a ban was at all justified.

I tend to agree with Ambrosius to a degree. Shame. But I can see your frustration with the forums. Just be aware that who is being the "idiot" in a scenario is very much a matter of perspective, and oftentimes it is actually neither side that is truly being idiotic (or sometimes, it is both). But even that is a matter of perspective, eh? The best thing I can do right now is to try to preach an attempt at tolerance, but I know that is rarely listened to. I would also encourage you to consider ceasing your attitude that the US community is nothing but a farce, as I think it is damaging to yourselves and the community as a whole. But suggesting that at all will probably just polarize you in the other direction, unfortunately. But hey, it is worth a try on the chance that it is otherwise.

To answer Ambrosius' question, yes. Most gaming communities are pretty bad with this "BS" as it has been put, particularly their forums. The smaller the community, the more personal and vicious things tend to get, but the larger the community, the more senseless drivel and spam you get. Either way, it is BS of a sort, and irritating. It isn't that the community infrastructure itself is bad (i.e. JOSSH Forums, JSR, JPR) but rather as it was pointed out earlier that some of the membership is, and tends to ruin it somewhat with an amount of "BS." The chief thing to keep in mind when dealing with online gaming communities, Ambros, is that many of their members are mentally, and sometimes physically immature.

Regarding Balrog, I've gotten rather tired of their antics, particularly after they civ ripped one of my new pilots as he headed into Unreg 6 on 1 - apparently it takes that many pilots to take down a level 12 Solrain. Balrog and SG have been in a civ war for a few weeks now, and things are getting interesting - especially as the server unifies more and more against Balrog. Anyone interested in coordinating against them can feel free to give me, Cagle2, or Wotsit an F4 or PM.

One last thing. Al, I am a warrior of both guns and words. Sometimes more of one, sometimes more of the other. I believe that both, when wielded correctly, can be viable tools of persuasion or combat. Hopefully that has not and will not bother you too much.
