Er on the POS front what custardx said.
2nd accounts most know who it is, i got him for squad reason's used him for PVP, now i use him to kill BIG FLUX. claiming sectors, i tend only to claim if im fluxing, (and that is mostly in flux space) or if we are as a croup. I have felt the hand of the counter claimer, now what was it oh yes i was in a aptreyx and he was in a moonson that was it, so i dont claim in reg space. ![]() |

POSs have had a negative impact on the game, they scattered the playerbase and allowed for hoarding in a "supply shortage-farm free-mining dependent" economy.

That amazes me as well. I played an alt once for a few days when my squad, The Gang, left the game after the release of EPII. It was stunning to find out some of the alts people played. It pays to be very careful about what you say because you might just be talking about someone's alt. I have to admit I don't like it....it lowered my trust level quite a bit when certain alts of old squadmates were revealed LOL. Xerout |

Al, I'll grant you the "mining in a claimed sector" part. It never occurred to me simply because I haven't sector claimed since I made my Opti. Why give someone an excuse to shoot me down? If you claim a sector, you should be wiling and able to defend it, and any of your non-combat squadmates who might be in it. Since there is no penalty for shooting down non-combatants in a claimed sector, I see no problem with you going ahead and doing so. As you said, it might teach them a lesson.
I'm all for POS and have been since they were brought into the game. Particularily with the current scarcity of equipment, I like having a stock of replacements available as opposed to spending hours scrounging at stations or mercantile POSs. You've all heard my ideas on outproducing the demand and POS factory mods so no need to repeat them here. I'll favor turning "upkeep" back on when there's a way to make profits from hauling again. Right now the lack of profits, commods and equipment is the biggest negative side of the game for me and it has nothing to do with POS or civ-ripping. I was happy when the pilots from EU joined us and I'm still happy about it. Hopefully more paying pilots will enable ND to add more programmers quicker. |

point 1) Civ tags only indicate that the owner of the tags does not wish to be engaged while wearing the tags.
point 2) They do not indicate that others do not wish to engage the owner. They do not indicate that the owner is not up-to-no-good. They do not stop the owner from being hit by weapon-fire or piracy from any source. Much of the antipathy towards RP-PKers (pirates/extreme factionalists/whatever) from PvEers comes from a complete refusal by PvEers to understand these points. PvPers USUALLY understand point 1) and allow PvEers to get on with themselves. The game mechanics do not ENFORCE against people ignore point 1), only ENCOURAGE to not PK. GMs will usually not enforce those that PK without RP. but in the end it IS an RP game and well RPed PKing can be good for the game. Many PvPers respect point 2) also and attack civs that are being jerks. Claiming a sector is the equivalent of turning off your civ-tags. I don't play any more tho... so... make your own rules. :P |

The pilots only recourse has always been either quit playing the game the way you want to, or quit playing the game. Perhaps the devs intended non-pvp ships to be escorted, but civ tags killed the CONSTANT need of escort, and made escorting terribly boring most of the time. That's why when trouble comes looking, no one has an escort. |

You understand fully Grim.
The civ/honor tag system was pasted on top of the very PvP-centered game. Civs are a very important part of the game, but the inadequacies of the tag system are still very relevant, causing people who like being only civ to quit. The system grew up with escorts and shortages causing PvPers to value PvEers more than they did after the tag system was put in. shrug. Istvan would love to change it... if only he didn't have to fix the econ and flux AI too. |
