I assume you're referring to this post: http://forums.jossh.com/showthread.php?threadid=25410 .

I believe this initiative stems from Istvan's realization about what the vast majority of the player base really wants in this game.

Quote:
......I overestimated the number of players who really were interested in making mining and hauling so important................Our chief objective, now that it has become clear that the players cannot stabilize the economy without our help, is to keep the game enjoyable for the largest number of players possible.
.
- Istvan

I am very very impressed by these actions. It is all too easy to believe that a few very vocal players represent the game-play wishes of the majority of the playerbase when in fact they do not at all. A buddy of mine started a new account recently just to relax and do some JGing. He asked if I'd start a new one with him and I said no due to the ongoing massive equipement shortages, it just wasn't fun to play. I'm going to seriously reconsider that descision. Well done Isty!

Right, but you do understand that CP are wasteful and generally suck....right?

Furthermore, being an advocate of mining being worth doing doesn't mean advocate for everyone having to mine. The ONLY person I know who likes equipment shortages is Ambrosius. Even the people that want mining to make a difference realize there need to be adjustments (and have suggested some). Also, the majority of the playerbase was fond of MC farming at one point. What the majority wants isn't necessarily good for the longevity of the game.

Well, I am a bit nervous with all these CPs going up. But, so far, they have been for higher tiered commods .. not for equipment, and not for mineable commods (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I still don't want to see a CP for everything and anything, but I haven't seen anything yet that will make me start to head for the retirement home again.

Maybe he's looking at adjusting the ratios, so that it's not a 1+1+1=1 type of thing.

That still leaves the suck part. If he wants to adjust ratios he should do it on the stations (like he has for FF and Instig).

Looking at that quote isn't he suggesting Nano Producers and not the oh so feared CP's you mentioned. It did after all say its to deal with commod shortages and not equipment ones.... Yes I know they link it, but its still not a CP...

They either need to do this or bump up the ore yields so massivly and unrealisticly so that the people that actually enjoy mining can support the entire playerbase.

Some will never be happy unless they are complaining.

The way I read it is this is a multi-prong effort to help the economy along. Between improving some production rates, certain CP's being developed, and up-ing the mining rewards, there will be sufficent ability to extracate ourselves from our current troubles.

There are more than one way to skin a cat, and I applaude Ist for being willing to change everything again.

I don't disagree with your points GG but something must be done to retain the "new" EU players and draw guys like me back. I'm not saying reactivate the old EP1 economy but it just has to be easier to make money and find supplies than it seems to be right now. I've come back post EPII a couple of times (the first time with around 10 old squadmates) and it was just too much of a pain to re-equip, even with several POSs between us. This move by Ist looks like a direct attempt to put some of the "fun factor" back in the game for more casual players.

Some people will never be happy because that's their nature. I'm curious where you see improving production rates in there anywhere though. I just hope he does something with the purity. I figure any player (or at least quant players) should be able to mine for an hour and have 100 units of whatever commod they were trying to make. With the % at what they are now, that's not true for far too many different commodities.

Right here...

That says to me, you will get more for your troubles.

The purity is about as maxed as it can get, unless you start removing ores from the rock, which is not necessarily a bad idea. The code needed for such a thing is much more than simply tweaking the production rates.

As an interim solution, I see what Ist is doing as first-rate. It is an over-arching solution to a very complicated problem.

Ore purity is about 100%, but roid purity is no where close...I mean, PM roids are more common than PM. I think the FIRST step should be making PM, semi, and rad have more of what they are supposed to than common. There's plenty common roids if we need common ore for something. Take it out of PM etc.
