So how about a perspective of a new player who HAS actually tried the game?
I found this site and JumpGate about 2 days ago. And I've really been enjoying the short time I've had in the game so far. YES!! An online space game where you actually FLY a spaceship through space as opposed to click through space. The community does seem small and I've often found myself all alone in sectors, but the people I have encountered so far have been extremely friendly and more than willing to take time to answer my questions. Not once have i been told "stfu noob" or something similarly ignorant. No comment on customer service since I've not had a reason to use it so far. Everything has worked the way it said it would at jossh.com. Eventually I'm going to try the Privateer for the windows OS that I've been waiting like a decade for. But right now I'm having too much fun exploring the JumpGate universe. |

I'm somewhat involved in the "unofficial" marketing of Jumpgate and it's always good to know where to find people who are likely to enjoy Jumpgate, and what "hot buttons" get them interested in taking a peek. |

Well, honestly the Privateer Remake pales in comparison to Jumpgate. I played it all the way through it since I'm a stay at home dad with nothing better to do while my boy naps and Jumpgate numbers are sometimes in the single digits. The Priv combat is simplistic, the AI ships fly like targets, not like they are trying to kill you (the same problem all WC games and XW games had, and apparently all AI ships still have). Even if you crank up the AI difficulty, they just dodge like tougher targets, still not like real people trying to kill you. I routinely defeated 20 pirates at a time with little effort. The Priv economics are even more simplistic just like the original, and the storyline is what it is: a repeat of the same old linear Priv storyline.
Though I loved Privateer in its day, the universe is amazingly dull when none of the ships you see do anything remotely unpredictable. It's a single player game. It was done well and was a good plast from the past. But just like playing Ms. PacMan or Asteroids is great fun for maybe an hour; Priv Remake is fun for a few hours; compared to Jumpgate which is fun for a few hours a night, every night. |

The game would rock even more if there was tons of players online.
Just imagine I would be playing Jumpgate almost everyday besides shooting flux all the time. |

@ spork: Heh, its funny you should say that about the Privateer remake. Although I haven't actually tried it yet, I have been hesitant to play for exactly those reasons. Don't want to spoil all my very fond memories of that game.
@ ambrosius: I can't remember how exactly I came across joystickrequired.com. Just surfing I suppose, but when I found it I clickied JumpGate under Hottest Games, went to themis-group and started reading about it. Once I read it was online only I knew I immediately had to try. I've been dreaming about a great online space sim. EVE and SWG grew boring quickly for me because of the nerfed up bun-bun game play. I did play E&B for quite a long time, but thats gone now of course. I actually thought Jumpgate was new... but then someone in game told me its been out since 2000?!?! Sheesh, what rock have I been under? Anyway, I'm glad I found it.As far as "unofficial" marketing, well I'll just say this. I spent some time today cruising through the jossh forums as well as the one here. The player base may be small, but y'all are passionate about this game. That much is obvious. Look at ways to leverage that passion. Excitement is a powerful and attracts others like nothing else if its focused correctly. Anyway, enough speeches. Hope to see you all in game. b_b |

This is my first post here.. although I've been in Jumpgate awhile now. I find this game to be very entertaining for only 10 bucks a month. The players I've met have all been nice to me.. except for those gosh darn pirates that kill me whenever I'm on. But that's for another topic.
Anyway, I just wanted to post this and say hello. ![]() |

Well, for me its 9,50 euro... So thats.. um.. right. Well, the only thing that would keep ME from playing, is that there are not that much players... How many players are there now? Many? Do you see min. 10 players on ur journey? Do you see em flying around? .... well whatever, still thats the only thing that would keep me anytime.. I want this game! With mo~re players! ![]() |
