game may not be worth the money.
hello. this game reminds me of privateer online but placed in an online universe and using newton phsyics.
there are many different flaws with this game including low online numbers and such. i was talking to another internet user who played the game in the past and told me that the customer service is non-existant, and the player to player role playing is also non-existant. all you can do is fly ships, to some missions, and kill only one type of ai's known as the conflux. not to bash any jumpgate fanboys but for those playing the game sounds most likley to be stuck playing a single player game with an online chat. with only one developer online, the game appears to progress extremely slowly to a point where nothing good is going to happen with Jumpgate getting a major face lift with graphics and sound updated for another year or so. oh yeah i also heard the jumpgate community continues to shrink again whenever themis group bans someone from a third party forum. heck, even freelancer has more players than jumpgate on a daily basis. I often check out the andromeda server there. with 5 dollars more a month I could get a lot more massive benefit out of it like EVE online. With a large universe and the player storyline being controlled by 9/10 of the players all the time. or even if you are asking for another alternative twitch based game theres JTLS with thousands of players online and simply the best crafting system out there. Though I bought SWG, Expansion pack and the subscription fee and it is indeed WORTH the money. has netdevil done anything to solve any flaws of what I explained above? p.s. don't worry, vendetta online also got a bad review too with a "don't waste your money on this game with rabbid fanboys" or something like that. |

I'm going to tell you one thing... I've been on this boat for 5 years and Im not abandoning the ship just because a friend told you that this game is not worth it. The day you play it and really get to know it.. I'll value, somewhat, your opinion.
You have ZERO idea of what you talk about, and you keep forgetting the part that you need skills to play this game... so, go to EVE or whatever u came from, and play that skill-less thing you pay big bucks for. ELP |

IMHO this game is worth the money. I have a biased opinoin though. I have been playing it for 3+ years. It is the only game that I have played that does allow players to beinvolved with the universe in a big way, and also provide skill based playing. You can not just macro your way into a better ship or economic position. You actually have to perform the action. I do see a lot o role playing, all the time. Ask brotherhood or DE. Unbreakable is even playing a role.
Yes there is shooting at conflus. There is also PVP fighting, mining, arti hunting, producing equiment, and hauling. I mostly do producing and hauling. There are a few types of that type of experiance. Contract hauling and economy hauling I accept contracts from players to haul items and equipment where they want it. This is player interaction, not a single player game. No it is not a corporate based game, unless you make the corporation for people to contract for production It is what you make of it. Not what others tell you it should be. Yes, I am a fan. I always will be. I like that it is like privateer. I do wish it had some of the other aspects of that game. I hope you give this game a chance. I still think it is the best one out there for the money. |

Comparing SWG to Jumpgate makes my eyes bleed. The PvP lasts for about 5 seconds, most people over there probably don't even own a joystick. So ridiculously easy. Reason whY Jumppgate doesn't retain new players, is because its hard. So basically your taking the easy way out with teh point and clickeh.

So, let me get this straight, Diskette. You take as Gospel someone who admits to being a former player, without having even spent 10 minutes in it on your own? And then compare it to games that are nowhere near comparable (even in SWG:JTLS, your effectiveness is dictated by dice rolls, whereas effectiveness in Jumpgate is purely based on the abilities of the pilot, not some random number generator)?
Pardon us "fanboys" (which, by the way, is a rather tiresome accusation that seems to be shorthand for "those who don't fall all over themselves to agree with me", judging from the contexts in which I've seen the term used, in various fora) for being somewhat skeptical... |

The question, Diskette, is this. Why are you bothering posting some old review about a game that you don't want to play in the middle of a forum for people who love the game and play it often? I'm curious as to what you hope to gain from this. JumpGate is obviously a 'niche' game. It just apparently isn't your niche, which i'm sorry to hear... But I sincerely hope that you have a wonderful time in the games that are your style.

Thanks Diskette! I never saw those reviews before. It's hard for me to believe the detractors are talking about the same game I play and love. Different folks, different strokes I guess. I'm happy enough to have played and paid since retail. Could be a lot better. Could be a lot worse. I think I'll stay for a while.

I'm answering this not for the benefit of Diskette who has made up his mind based on hearsay, but for anyone else thinking of playing Jumpgate who might read the thread.
Quote:
To address your specific complaints: Yes, online numbers are low. That is the biggest problem with Jumpgate. Customer service is spotty. It can be quick and helpful, but it can also be slow. Just depends who you talk to, what you need, and which way the wind is blowing. If you can get online, the players are friendly and helpful to noobs. Player to player role playing is HUGE in Jumpgate. Even if the "character" you are playing is yourself, and even if your only role is to "shoot the enemy" then you are playing a role. There are a lot of people who take their character backgrounds into consideration with every encounter and are more serious about role playing. Quote:
There are lots of mission types. Some affect the official storyline, most do not and are just there as a means of gaining money and experience points. You can also form Squads and create your own roleplaying experience. Most people play Jumpgate for interaction with other people, not AI. So there only being 1 AI type is a PLUS. Though there are 27 different types of Conflux for those who like to kill them. Plus roaming "swarms", plus artifact hunting and pure roid mining for other types of PvE. Yes, we have 1 developer. He has spent a ton of time fixing bugs that his predecessors left. He is just now beginning to get to advance the game to where it needs to go (where it really should have been 2 years ago). It is slow, but most Jumpgate players love the game for what it is, not what it will be. Ditto for the graphics. If you like eye candy, download a screen saver and use MIRC to chat with your friends. The Jumpgate graphics are fine for the type of game it is. If you like Freelancer or EVE, then go for it. Point and click your heart out. The Jumpgate download is free. $10 a month is lunch money for less than 2 days. Yes, it's worth the money, easily. |

SPAM ALERT!
I'm sorry, you seem to miss the part about where these forum are here in support of Jumpgate. If you want to discuss other Joystick enabled games, feel free to open a discussion in the other areas available on this site. If you want to bash Jumpgate, take it somewhere else. I don't mind game promotion in the appropriate areas here. But when it's veiled like this it is spam and nothing but spam. And this community is sick of the ignorant spam from peeps that have never even opened the can. So in conclusion, no more spam. Promote your joystick enabled games in an appropriate area. As far as point and click, string guided, panty waste, can't hack it, sissy mary games that have no joystick options, take it somewhere else. We don't support those here. Anyway, welcome to JSR.
