I speculate that the absence of GMK can be attributed to the fact that Jumpgate subscriptions have dropped below the level required to pay the Themis group for a part-part-part-time GM.
I further speculate that with the shortcomings of auto-assault, it's fairly unlikely that the people being currently hired by Netdevil are being hired to revamp Jumpgate.
In fact, I'm moderately concerned that Jumpgate has merely been an experiment to see if a solo dev can maintain a small MMO. With all the fabulous things Istvan has done, Jumpgate is actually a much better game than it was when he took the helm, but player numbers aren't reflecting this. Further, the fact that those that remain have to wait so long for the spiffy changes to be implented just makes things worse.
I wonder if subscriptions kicking Jumpgate back into the black would be enough for the powers that be at Netdevil to recognize the direction Istvan is taking Jumpgate makes it worth saving. Is it possible that if after the military patch, if subscriptions reach a certain amount Scorch will realize Jumpgate is worth reinvesting in? If so, could it be that Istvan would get his own codemonkeys to help?
If that happens, Jumpgate would probably get free publicity in that it would be some kind of news (at least in certain circles) that a MMO has come back from the brink of death (or dead, depending on your viewpoint). That news would breathe further life into Jumpgate....Istvan would probably get promoted and placed over AA to turn it around
