That was kind of my point, though I could have been more diplomatic about it

There just isn't enough of an active player base to absorb this kind of roleplay. Unless of course they want to accurately RP the pirate and they all die of scurvy.

Heh, we should be so lucky. Wonder how they treat newbs. If i go back, i'll start a new account, not ressurect an old one. But that'll mean I can't outrun the Suckheads (pron: SUK-hed, term used to describe one who lives only through and by sucking the fun out of somebody else's day.)

I also wonder if there are even any anti-Suckheads around anymore. hmmm.

I don't agree that this is the last thing Jumpgate needs. I think it COULD be pretty bad, but I'd like to see how they handle this first.

If they are smart, and focus their activities during prime time or the weekends, and keep their "grief force" small enough that resistance can be mounted against them, then this could be a good thing.

As for you guys, JD and Tim are Sols, right? If so, Soli will be more than happy to escort you folks any time. Hell, it would up their chances of getting to fight someone. If you're not Sols.... then that might be a little more difficult. JITW and BH are the only Quants that can get more than 1 pilot on at a time (sometimes), and OEC is the only Oct squad that can do the same.

In any case, you guys are all TRI-C, so it shouldn't affect you (except for Grim). GET BACK IN GAME!!!!!

Don't get me started with that. TRI-C has nothing to do with understanding this game. If you read the other thread you will see that we plan to get back in game as a new years resolution.

I have no problem with pirates or bad guys. I remember the days of JADE and such fondly. But when there are 350 pilots in space. The odds of you running into 5 bad guys running around is less. When there are 30 pilots in space you will run into them at every turn. They won't be looking for prey, they will be looking for you. Since no one else is even online. It changes the dynamic too much.

But alas, I am TRI-C so I will sit back and watch. Let's see how this unfolds. My guess is, how it always has played out is how it will again.

My guess is they'll get horribly bored due to lack of victims. Sad thing is, the part that pisses me off most is that they're calling themselves privateers/pirates, and doing the same old pay or die and buy passage to unreg crap. The pirate tags are in place so that you can steal without getting a perma bounty, everything else is just harassment/extortion.

Just busting your chops

I know you guys are planning to return come January, and I'm looking forward to it. What I really hope is that there's something actually important for you guys to do (ie: make/haul equipment). If there is an actual need for haulers, then the PvP'ers will have a reason to protect you/attack you.

GG: agree about the terminology, although I'm not quite as rabidly opposed to its misuse And I'm not fond of unreg fees either. Pretty unimaginative imo.

I'm in one of my "Jumpgate optimism" modes, so you'll just have to excuse me rose-tinted vision for the time being.

Ok, I hope by Suckheads you are refering to the In Character persona. Because out of character, everyone is just someone trying to have fun. So let's leave the name calling to other destinations on a pilots journey. It's ok to have differing viewpoints on game fundamentals.

xoxoxo

Seems to be contradicted by this thread:

There is a good reason for this.

Vae Victis is taking great care with this RP, so as not to do harm to the server, and yet bring back a missing part of Jumpgate. Unreg belongs to nobody, and is a dangerous place to travel. Only with the loss of the pirates, unreg slowly became a lame place that nobody owned and nobody feared to travel through. That may be nice to some, but it's part of the game that is missing, and the last time I looked at those banners Jumpgate has out there on the web, it spoke of pirates and of course the pirate "YARRRR!!!!!!!!!". Kind of bad to draw players to the game and it be nothing of what was advertised. So, VV has restored one missing element of the game and given back the risk to unreg. Yes, it is going to take a little getting used to, and with the numbers low right now there is less risk and more show, but the point is that as the numbers grow they will see as much that the game has to offer as is possible.

Now, on to the topic of GrimGriz. His podding of an unarmed pirate ship was, by the letter of the game code, acceptable. No honor in podding an unarmed ship, less so since that ship was a "mercy" ship. Oh well, to each their own. Hunting pirates while civ is pretty lame as well, more so when one considers that his intent was to give permanent bounties over and over. Well, GrimGriz earned him self a pair of black marks for it all. First, for the lack of honor, and second for the insanity behind his actions.

His bragging and then whining about his lost kill on my dragon is a laugh. He got to attack me and take me down to almost zero shields because of the massive retry we were all getting off the server for some reason. One second I am docking and next my shields start to sparkle and I'm almost into armor in less than a tenth of a second. So I took off to get away from the station and find the attacker, he shows up on radar at last and I'm already into armor. He got me to -6 armor before he was podded, not by skill but by server error. Same thing that saved me from being podded is what allowed him to armor me at all. His ship cannot take a dragon down to a few percent shields in a single shot, never the less take them down farther than a nuke can in a tenth of a second.

I watched this happen for some time last night. Jump into a sector, see my own spawn, wait 3-4 seconds before any other pilots appear, another 2-3 seconds for their flux, with it taking as much as 8-10 seconds for the pilot at times and in one case the flux could be seen but not targetted at all, ever, but I watched the pilot they were on kill them, so I know they were there.
If your going to roleplay a pirate, you can not set rules of engagement. You are a criminal and have chosen to be such. Therefore, you can be hunted by anyone at anytime. Pirates of old were hunted across the seven seas by the various governments that ruled the day. Unfortunately, in Jumpgate, there is no government out hunting pirates, which is why it's a goofy one sided roleplay. The only recource is that the players choose to act as the representatives of TRI and hunt down the criminals.

I sure hope draiocht, or whoever it really is, didn't expect a big warm group hug.

Ah, bring back the real bad guys of old. The ones who didn't make big introduction posts on the forums trying to justify their RP. You found out when you jumped and saw yourself surrounded. The only message was the boom from your exploding ship. Or the sound of your flash fires and rapidly beating heart as you attempted to flee and call for help.

There is just too much chitter chatter now.

I need to get me some popcorn.

It's kind of sad really. I accept that some people think it's lame that I hunt bounties civ. Unfortunately for them, I've always felt that is the primary idea behind bounties, that civilians can shoot you and you can't fight back unless you run to unreg first. That's where the punishment part comes in. Anyway, at least I know my efforts caused some tears.

Nothing wrong with roleplaying the vigilante. As long as you can accept the repercussions that may or may not come. That is what it's called, Vigilante, not "civ hunting bounties." You can't be expected to join the military everytime you need a little justice delivery.
