I think many of you miss my point. Clinging to old things is not going to save this game. Much is stale and worn. This game needs new life, in new members, new ideas and new attitudes.
What the EU players are going through is just shy of a worst case scenario right now. The pilots that come here will have lost so very much that they have built over the years. They will be coming with cash, but at a loss of their history and culture that made them uniquely the EU Server. Money isn't everything.
But let's not sit here and think to ourselves in vanity that we are saving their game. In fact, their coming here may in fact be what saves our asses. Suddenly, we have hope for new revenue for development and growth. Suddenly there is a light to be seen at the end of a dark tunnel. Don't put that light out with your silly traditions and compulsive clinging to what once was. What once was, isn't anymore. It hasn't been for some time now.
There is much chatter about "us" and "them". "Our" way and "their" way. That's a load of crap. None of that existed when there was once only one server and none of that will exist when there is again, only one server. There is only one Jumpgate and there is as many different playstyles as there are players. One of the best things I learned in the USAF was when I went through "Rumors and Propaganda" training. I learned what a bunch of silly, unreliable oafs we are when giving testimony to the actions or happenings of others.
What this thread is about is Solidarity and unification as we head into this merger. We are in danger of having an unsuccessful merger event. I can see it three months from now. Players leaving in disgust because of "those guys" and how they "ruined our server." Or, "never made us feel welcome."
Squad pages are a mess and easily recreated. Resetting them and everyone starting fresh, would be an excellent display of solidarity and help make for a successful merger. In fact, I think they should be reset and left off for a time, So that they can be fixed. And everyone can fly squadless for a bit and get to know those "other guys" and let the situation evolve and dictate the future of events. After all, this is supposed to be a dynamic, and not static, game and community. Is it not?
