Mining idea.
JOSSH forums suck so I post here. :P
I think the whole mining driven economy is a load. The idea is sound, but the reality is something else. You just can't mine enough to keep up with demand. Online numbers are insignificant since greater numbers would require more mining and use up more resources. It's just a steady increase in futility. It's a game not a job. I think there should be player driven AI. For example, green rock licker, oh, well call him Griz, wants to be a successful miner. He can't do that now without punching back into work. And even then, it's a dismal existence living on stale bread and curdled milk. So why don't we let Griz purchase some AI vessels to assist him. Let's say ole Griz can purchase mining droids. These droids would be outfitted according to rank, pr, and of course, Griz's financial means. So it's no free ride, Griz must pay to play. Now can griz sit back and chat all night while his empire mines away. No, that would be silly. Don't be so negative mr. reader. No, Griz has to manually place these droids on an asteroid and then retrieve them. Then he has to transfer cargo and replace them, or retire for the evening with a cold glass of green slime and savor his new found business empire. Of course, these silly droids can be destroyed, captured, pirated if ole Griz isn't watchfull. Or maybe if he his watchful. Maybe he should purchase insurance on the droids, or hire peeps to watch his mining grounds. See, I already know that peeps will growl about this idea. But really, it would be cool and make mining fun. It would be something to achieve as a miner. Better than watching a rock turn purple while you insult each other in chat out of boredom. Anyway, my Jump |

I don't like the idea of being able to insure them, but the rest would be okay. The only reason I was ever an advocate of mining being a valuable part of the Jumpgate econ is because IMO if you are going to put something in the game, the player should feel that he is accomplishing something when he does it.

I think it is a cool idea, if implimented correctly.
I have been working on my project, and I have been thinking about mining alot. It is a great way to offer the "carebears" a means of affecting the gameplay, and thusly making them important cog in the overall machine. That said, I think you need to have options for large-scale mining operations. Just sitting in front of a roid for hours is, quite simply, not fun for most. My idea is very similar to yours Jump. You have the ability to buy drones that would be set on a rock (possibily in orbit around it), and you would have to pull their ore and deliver it to a depository/refinery. You would be able to pick them up and maintain them, just like equipment. Likewise, they would be destructable. It is an intersting idea that will likely prove to be complicated to actually make work. ![]() |
