As it gives the rest, less educated/talented in the art of flaming something else to debate.
And those that haven't played since the middle ages something to comment on.
More importantly it gives me something to make snide comments on, thus making my day in work slightly less mundane.

I don't see from a business point of view it is any risk at all, considering the pilot base or lack of it. The server is in an ever decrease client base and it’s only a matter of time before the bean counters pull the plug.

I would say Jumpgate needs a huge kick start, and is not going to be the old hands that breathe life in to this game. It needs lots of new blood, all starting from a level playing field, hence the server reset.

Ideas to get new players:
Give all Auto Assault account holders one free month.

Cant really see the point in resetting Jumpgate myself for those reasons because resetting would do nothing to create a level playing field for newcomers in my opinion, for the simple reason that Jumpgate is primarily a skill based game and money and levels are pretty irrelevant in Jumpgate at least compared to 95% of other online games out there.

You dont need a lot of money to compete with other players in Jumpgate, you only really need lots of it if you want to sink it in to a POS or spend on expensive arties and you dont need either of those to be competitive.

Certainly what level you are doesnt matter once you get past lvl 9 and can fly the LF as its the skill of the pilot and not what ship you can fly that matters. Stick a newbie in a lvl 50 account in the best ship and they will lose to a veteran in a LF everytime.

I think giveing Auto Assualt account holders one month free however is an excellent idea.

The auto-assault idea is a GREAT ONE.

I'm not entirely sure how I'd feel about a server reset...if it happened in a month when I'm back at school and not coming back till the summer time, I'd be more ok with it than if it happened, say, tomorrow. Heavily related to the fact that I just got back into it and I'm making my real push for my first ever Optimus, so my judgement is definitely clouded here.

If there was a server reset though, I'd also feel kind of bad if I didn't fly Oct / The Gang again, being as I have out-of-game connections to them (which I am very proud of and glad about) ... so I guess I would feel as if a reset was wasted for *Doc7* because I wouldn't change anything about my in-game actions (though maybe i'd try to die less). Same goes for all of you who have posted here, really. You've developed relationships and your characters in game, all a reset will do is reset your credit and level, nothing else will change...

Though if you think of that as the only point of a reset, and think it would bring in fresh blood, more power to you. I would like to think a reset resulted in people choosing new factions, making new groups, changing their playstyles up some, etc. However I personally wouldn't do that, GrimGriz might change factions but he'd hang out with the same people and continue to hate me, Aslan would still start "HO HO EEA MUST GO" chants, and Darian would still says "*bites such-and-such" every time someone entered f5:chat...

A reset would be wasted on everyone who currently plays and that's probably the biggest chance of renewing...I'm doing my part by trying to get Gang members to sign up (and seems to be starting to succeed, have 2 people probably renewing and two others considering checking this game out, i'm trying to find a program to make a video of killing some flux etc, trying out Adobe Premier tomorrow)

Jumpgate Subscriptions for Auto-assault players is the best idea, though I'm not sure how much a dude playing a game called Auto Assault is going to want to try to mine rocks...

Any1 got a link to the various Jumpgate movies for Doc?
Cuddly Noobz, and Muddybog's movie's spring to mind. Especially Muddybogs movie with Prodigy as a soundtrack.
No point making half baked stuff up quickly to promote Jumpgate to buddies when there are some masterpieces out there already.
Also, I know Lavey will as he's a old fart. Anyone got the original Jumpgate ad made about 5 years ago with actors etc. Truely awesome.
Would be a good idea to get all links/movie's in one spot "stickied".
Btw I'm not being helpful, I'm just so clever you guys haven't spotted my snideness in this post.

Al

I wouldn't like a reset personally. I am finally lvl 50 so I don't have to "worry" about XP. Which means I can concentrate on production and not care that I can't get a hauling mission to bring the needed commods to the station. I think I've taken maybe 10 missions since I reached Opti.

JoeStraz :

Just curious...What are the reasons someone in your position wouldn't like a reset?

Devil Advocate...You've achieved Optimus, you enjoy hauling things to make the economy move (which would be reset to faction equipment only on faction stations upon a reset, and no POS to start with); it seems like a fresh new server would be ideal for someone like you, you'd have a fresh new universe to populate with equipment rather than worry about someone immediately snatching it up for their uber POS.

We should reset the server at the end of every day. Then we've always got "fresh starts!"

Not really no. I'd have to invest time leveling up to the point where I have enough money and have a good enough ship/equip to do the hauling. Also, I'd have to re-collect the arty stack that has my freighter moving at a somewhat decent rate of speed. Finally, I wouldn't have a POS to store the commods I need to get equipment moving. For example, I bust my tail to get 50 vanadium to make machined parts. If I let those machined parts sit on the Core station that's producing it, it's quite possible it'll be consumed by that station for something I don't need. Yes, I can try to do it all in one shot, but if I don't have the time, or if the consuming station needs other commods to produce the equipment I need, I'm SOL and will have to carry it around with me until I'm ready.

Those are the biggest reasons why I wouldn't want a reset.

I don't have a link for the CN flash intro (the one where a fleet of Apes spanks a tensie), but I have the file on my hard drive, should someone be inclined to donate storage (the file's only 443kb according to Explorer, but I don't know how popular it would be, and can't really swing transfer overage fees for nohbody.com at the moment).
