Need some info/encouragement
Hey guys,
I played the trial of Jumpgate a couple weeks ago and liked the game, but felt the population was too low for it to be enjoyable at "end game", so I did not buy a sub. I have since tried Eve (actually playing the trial now) and It makes me miss Jumpgate..... The game is great but the point and click flying and lack of clipping drives me nuts...... Tell me about "end game" Jumpgate TRI..... what is there to do... how many people are there? How much PvP happens... any meaningful PvP? Try to convince me its worth investing my time in Jumpgate, or warn me that its really not worth playing until Evolution.... Thanks!!! Grimm |

Re: Need some info/encouragement
At its best, the server fills up to 60 people playing per night these days. PvP happens a lot. You could make it happen every day if you wanted. It was written as a PvP game. Honestly, I'm waiting for Jumpgate Evolution to come to beta before I start playing again. Otherwise, I'll be disappointed.

Re: Need some info/encouragement
Hate to say it but I don’t log in much now as there isn’t much to do ( as for Eve I got bored even when I was in a good corp. ) I love Jumpgate but the lack of people and things to do and the fact im sort of Jumpgate cracked out, still its still a great game and Im here and there keeping tabs on the old girl, and still have an active sub, but as far as playing day in day out , at the moment it’s a no go,
So er there that was about as convincing a reason to stay as selling ice to Eskimos. |

Re: Need some info/encouragement
Every time I log on I find fights.
Last night I PvP'ed for hours on end until I was too drunk to see anymore. Fights ranging from 1v1 to in excess of 5v5(not always even numbers). I've played from the times when there were in excess of 500 online but at the end of the day it only takes 2 to make a fight. Back in the day when there were 20v20 it was fun, but it was mayhem. No place to hide in smaller fights. If you do sub, get into the sim and shoot some established players. For $10 a month it's worth it to see for yourself. Regards Al |

Re: Need some info/encouragement
Not very encouraging... guess I'll suck it up and play Eve until Evolution goes live.
I'll really miss manual docking and the ability to crash into things!!! |

Re: Need some info/encouragement
It's not so much the $10 I'm worried about, its the feeling of regret I'll have after I invest the time to level up and get a nice ship when I find there is nothing much to do. I want politics, large scale battles, smuggling, bounty hunting, pirating....... the usual. Eve has all these but also comes with huge lag, immersion breaking lack of clipping, warping through planets, auto docking, point and click movement and combat, jumping through stargates you're hardly even close to, etc..... which stinks.
I find it impossible to become immersed in Eve... Jumpgate had me immersed from the moment I attempted my first docking procedure in the sim. Grimm Quote:

Re: Need some info/encouragement
Well, you are a few years late for all that. It's good to play Jumpgate now to get skilled at flying and docking and such. This may or may not be an advantage in Jumpgate Evolution. Just join one of the bigger active squads and play when they play.

Re: Need some info/encouragement
Or you could simply play to learn the skills that make Jumpgate so different from anything else you ever played before or since. I don't see ND taking away the parts of the game that make it so wonderful and so horrible, (the whole skill based bag). Putting ammo or laser on target, whether it's flux or PC, isn't going to change that much. I don't see mining changing that much either. I can't imagine the inertia of 700u of iridium will be nerfed down to nothing. So the piloting skills you will need in "your next life" are going to be pretty much the same. Do you want to use up the first hours, days or weeks of your playing time in Jumpgate Evolution learning what you need to know to fly your ship well? Or just use a few minutes to translate those piloting skills to new ships?
The point is Grimm, whatever Jumpgate Evolution turns out to be, the skills to do well in it will be the same ones you develop in Jumpgate Classic. I doubt if anything you do in Eve will be of much use to you in either Jumpgate Classic or Jumpgate Evolution (but I could be wrong). I don't play as much as I used to because I've already done everything that's of interest to me and because my RL is both busy and satisfying right now. I'm as good as I'm going to get as far as game skills are concerned. I see no real point in trying to increase scores that will most likely be wiped out when Jumpgate Evolution comes out. Having said that, no week goes by but what I log in for at least an hour or so even if I don't log on for hours at a time every day as I once did. The mere fact that so many veterans are unable to "just walk away" from this game should tell you something, but in the end it's always going to be your choice. You'll have to find your own reasons to go or stay. BTW what the heck is the "clipping" you keep going on about? |

Re: Need some info/encouragement
Im glad you liked the game like most of us and didnt judge it by looks first 5 min and left. Very few are playing, there are peak times, its not as fun as when it was more active. But I think its still worth my 10$. And just popping in once or twice when I feel for it is fun sometimes.

Re: Need some info/encouragement
i just reuped my account after 4 years of not being there... to my surprise there is a lot of things to do.
i use to once in a while check jossh and say.. man only 25 pilots... but now that i log it doesn't feel that way. 25 pilots but u can always find someone to stuff together.... mind you that pvp is not always there... but if you log at a MIT there will be people looking for you.. or u can go look for them; but so far i am enjoying my mining of roids.. which i never did before... and now since i found my first artifact.. i want to go back and do some more arti hunt. just for fun. ITS WHAT MAKES Jumpgate Jumpgate... u digg? |
