New Feature for Jumpgate Forums
I'm hacking the Vbulletin to have a "what's going on?" box at the bottom of the Jumpgate forums like on the main forum page but with certain data specific to Jumpgate forums. Such as user online and most online. Looking good so far. Just need to track down where all the info gets created and hack it up to do it differently by category.

Jump, you know I'm an idiot. Can you explain what the stuff means to people like me? What can I use it for? How will it help me? Stuff like that. WB

Well, If you notice on any Vbulletin board. At the bottom of the main forums page there is a table that says "What's going on?" or something else if it has been changed. At the bottom of individual forums however, there is a table to select how far back to search posts and such and also a list of who's in that forum. But it only works if the forum itself can be posted in. Which sucks.
The Jumpgate forum here is set as a category, and cannot be posted in. It's the sub-forums that are for posting. So we are left with nothing at the bottom. Obviously we don't need the "thread history" bit since there are no posts in a category. I suspect that's why nothing is there. I asked around hack sites many time but got no replies that helped so I did it myself. So now at the bottom of the main Jumpgate category forum we have a "What's going on?" table just like if it was a stand alone forum. Really, you would know this was a subforum on another site except for the breadcrumb at the top and the url. So now when you come to the Jumpgate forum here you will see how many threads and posts it has, who's online, most online ever, birthdays, etc, in the table at the bottom. Just an asthetic thing really but to me it makes a big difference. If you need more clarification please feel free to ask. |
