I personally like using colored text to make it completely clear that comments are IC.

There are all kinds of "RP" so we need to be careful how we throw the word around. I believe the "RP" being referenced here is more at the squad level -- defining who you are and how you will behave under most circumstances. Ideally, a squad should have a strong identity including a backstory and pretty strict Rules of Conduct. This basically creates your "squad RP." Once you have that -- individuals can (if they choose) create their own characters that fit in with that RP.

For instance, Squad "Fluxterminators" is formed. Their backstory is that their leader was the sole survivor of a Conflux attack on a transport ship, and that he had dedicated his whole life to their erasure from space. Their RoC is that their members' first priority will be swarm destruction; they will NEVER dump flux; they will make every effort to aid other pilots in need of help with flux; they will never enlist for a military tour; they will never attack another pilot or squad unless they pilot/squad has demonstrated hostile intentions . . .

. . . and so forth.

Finally, squads (and all of their members) need to be prepared to stick strictly to their RP/RoC once they are set -- and that's where things tend to fall apart. The other BIG problem is that there is just too much OOC anger and vendetta that goes on. It's a game!

If you ever hear me hammered on TS I guess you could replace "dumb" with "drunk".
Dumb people will always be dumb, drunk people are an unknown entity. Kinda like a box of chocolates. But with dumb people you always know what you going to get.
