1 - *reopens earlier can of worms in thread* Ohh, I totally agree with SS in that the Dragon is an evil little ship that, given even two SKILLED pilots facing off Dragon vs normal fighter, the Dragon will typically win. PvP isn't balanced in any game out there with differing sides and equipment types, nor will it ever be. Jumpgate's balance is still a bit bad compared to most other games, but its "okay" enough that Istvan can focus on other things for awhile.. so I'll bide my time, and when the ships finally get a good looking at again... well, maybe I'll finally get to fly my Intruder in PvP without feeling like a giant, neutered target symbol.

2 - That signature is God. I am saving that.

3 - I feel left out. I don't have an evil mastermind alt from Beta, or even release! ;.;

PS: Yes, my post is an indication that I am thinking of poking my head back into Jumpgate in several days here. We'll see. Not that more than one or two folks care. XD

I hope the first point was a joke. Dragon is no match to most ships in 2v1.

Intruder in PVP... just look at it from this point: Not every ship needs to be for PVP and sols have 3 formidable PVP fighters.

I beleive in a 1 v 1 situation the dragons firepower is correct for what it is - a heavy fighter, its cumbersome but whacks the biggest punch in the galaxy.

But the other HF's do not measure up one way or another no matter how much "some" pilots try to convince us.

The Intruder and the monsoon can hardly be called heavy fighters when compared to the D machine, its like comparing a Shark's firepower to that of a Nautaloid.

So can I. But if someone decent was flying the Dragon, at best we would tie (The Dragon runs me out of FFs, but I'm left with the option of running)

@ Vorlon

The other HFs have plenty of advantages over the Dragon. Whether this makes them better combat ships or not, eh. That's fuzzier.

All 3 HFs are broken ships. The Dragon allows a clueless noob to do way more damage than he should be able to - I'm not afraid of them much now that mortars have been de-uberified a tad, but any number of nooby dragons will literally decimate any other fleet of nooby anythings.

Both the Soon and Truder are broken I think because of profiles. They walk a line that gives them signifigantly more manouverability than the Dragon and a fair bit less firepower (especially the soon), but their otherwise great stats are kinda messed up by their profiles.

I should go around flying a truder, as it's basically a giant version of the typhoon*...but then I'd get ganked even more

*Both have very competitive TM ratios, competitive firepower at low throttle settings, crappy firepower at high throttle settings, and a profile so awful it makes the ship a walking target.

I would say faction balance is pretty good atm, if you consider the Dragon as a replacement for the 'craptor deficiencies. Line ups would typically be dragon, nix, chiro/raven..tensy, vader/ceptor, cuda...and phoon, clone/pest, nado.

Therein lies the problem tho. While that presents a balance of power, its at the loss of a decent bomber for the octs and loss of decent HF for sols n quants.

So, while the game may have initially been written for pvp, in combat scenarios now we also have a matching pve environment. The HF's were designed with battling flux in mind, not pvp so it is the needs of the fluxxing crowd that we should be attending to here. Should there come about an extra ship each for pvper's, thats a bonus in my view.

Well, for what it's worth, the fact that nobody is happy about ship balance probably means something. Since everybody is always complaining about something, chances are things are fairly well balanced. At least from my perspective.

It's that whole "A good compromise leaves everybody unhappy" thing. Least, it rather seems that way to me.

Depending on when they were designed that's pretty hard to believe. I do recall a dev being quoted on PJG to say that they thought the oct bomber was the best though

The worst thing about the HFs to me, is that 2 original vantages are better than the vantage peeler combo that exists now, and that there are no size 4 ions that could feasibly take advantage of the strengths of added maneuverability. Some size 4 mining lasers would be nice too

Also, wasn't the raptor brought up to par a long time ago (yet still sees no use due to the superiority of the dragon)?

Who was the nut-job that flew the Premia of Doom, with the 2 MS's??? He'd launch, spam, juke and jive, dock, repeat. Of course, that was back in the good ol days when everyone could mount MS's, and FF's were reusable
