The HF's were released post-EP2 launch, now i dont know how it was over here but certainly on EU the storyline for the release and subsequent testing in flux-space (via prototype gatekey technology and manual manipulation of gate fields to allow pilots through) was to test the HF in a real-time scenario against unknown conflux, gather data and tweak the ships accordingly to be effective in further ventures to FS, to battle the threat. Seems pretty clear to me what they were designed for.

Just because you had GMs that no how to RP doesn't mean the HFs were designed for that RP, and I'd be shocked if any tweaks to the HFs were made based on that RP. I assure you, mortars were nerfed because singleshot didn't think I should be getting pvp kills

Just to dig into the history of it, this is mostly based on talking to a couple TPs from the EP2 dev program...

The HFs were created to fight the uber conflux space conflux.
The AFs were designed for PvPers.

The AFs of course never saw the light of day, presumably because the in-space transformation function that everyone was sure they would have was way too hard to implement.

The HFs never saw the light of day either in their original design plan. They have dreams and rushes for a reason, originally they were going to have fairly regular dragfactors and go very fast. Obviously to fight the ebil flux, which were also made irrationally fast.
Who really knows what ND was originally thinking, but the TPs managed to not have them release v600 dragons/intruders/monsoons, etc. Presumably they realized that ships like that would end combat as we know it.

So to call the HFs anti-flux ships is a bit silly now, because they have long since been nerfed down to the realm of normal ships.

And GG, I was a hell of a lot more scared when ridgeway/sucky/whatever started flying a mortar dragon. That thing was monstrous, especially since he knew how to fly it. You just flew the mortar soon like an average fat tensy.

Perhaps, but it's a lot less scary when a tensy sneaks up behind you. kathunk, kathunk, BOOM!!

Besides, weren't flux nerfed down to the realm of normal not too long ago?

I was speaking more of your "kill one person, and FF away with FFs of infinity while the fleet ganks you" technique.

Which really is how lots of tensy pilots fly, if they can manage to kill someone.

Flux, flux are weird.

I'm not sure if they actually intended to nerf the hell out of them. They really did, though.
Three things happened.
1. Laser flux randomly miss a few times at the start of the fight. "meh"
2. Many many more ammo flux.
and most importantly,
3. Flux run at something like 1/3 throttle when they fire their guns.
Laser flux are easier to fight, ammo flux? Hahahaha, ammo flux are really sad now. I don't know if they could kill an evading iridium tow now.

There was a time recently when I was crusing around fluxland in my phoon that I got a c20something krill on me. Two feathers, v550, blah, blah blah. Some huge gank out there as well, otherwise it would have died. As it was, I was just running from gate to gate.

I figured I'd FF to safetly if I needed too, I wasn't close to the next gate from the gate. I didn't need to.

-The flux would enter into gun range slowly as it caught up to me (3000m)
-Accordingly, it would switch into "fire' mode. Due to a really really old bug, flux fire their first shot BEFORE they switch to duelist aiming, then all other shots are aimed. First shot misses my phoon. The flux has cut throttle, bounces out of range before the 2nd shot, speeds up, and repeats.

It makes fighting them really easy too. I don't mind, I'm still irritated at the huge nerf in kraken exp awhile ago.

Oh, and krill lost something like v60. ish.
