Solrain is pretty much dead..
PvP wise especially. I created a new account(well my old one as Emicuiro, I wanted to change name because my new one is a lot better), and basically I asked the public channel on what squad I could join as a Solrain and I was told, "Reset quant if you want to PvP and we'll talk". That sounded a bit disturbing to me because they just want the faction to die and not worth fighting/doing for or something like that.
I could create a PvP squad but the problem I ran into is, pro-quant and pro-oct squads have been there for a long time. Heck we tried doing one as Solrain Guard but they ganked us repeadly and civ ripped on a common basis. And don't have much cash either. I could bug (SOL) Navy to come back but I highly doubt they will ever join. So pretty much I'm not gonna complain about this anymore because I have better things(yet being creative) to do rather than that. I still love Jumpgate however, some things relating to the player turn me off. I'm going to sleep now. |

@King: regarding Knights Order, I'm not sure what they consider themselves, but I never really though of them as "Sol Factionalists" in the DragonEye or Sol Navy molds (not sure about good former-EU examples). |

As for Knights Order, not a real solrain squad but does have solrain in it and does shoot OV and Quantar related squads.
Closest match though but still don't represent solrain. I would be a bit surprised if they did go pro solrain with sols only but thats just my imagination. |

You only have to look at online pilots at any time to see the current imballance of factions, at peak times (both eu and us) there are x2 Octs compared to quants and sols. A fact that mirrors the last days on the eu. And why? Because oct ships have the pp's now to be fun.
I know that if I were to reset (which I 1000% am not) I would go for being oct purely for the dragon and its fluxing capabilties. Underpowered ships are a bore esp when you here your oct counterparts prattling on about their "prowess" against flux that would eat them alive if they had the power deficits of the other HF's. But then again, my dragon envy is well established. If the sol size 4 engines allowed sol and quant hf's to fire flails and hits like the dragon (and match its speed), faction numbers would level, or at least pilots resetting to oct just to fly the dragon would cease. So, Solrain dead? its just as dead as Quant but the quants are resilient enough not to realise it yet. My biggest wish for jumpgate would be that the HF's were all of a standard config - something that the purists will hang me for. But with the introduction of epII and its new flux types, giving the octs the ONLY ship capable of comfortably taking out c26+ was a mistake, imo. |

well it is sad to not see a pro-solrain squad out thier, it has nothing to do with ships. In a realspace engagement (not a 1v1) the tensy owns, hands down. Not to mention the vader. And the interceptor is not bad either, as it can have ions. The dragon IMO sucks, turns to slow, although it can do some damage it is very weak especially in realspace.

I was always more comfortable fluxing in pure fighters, and to me there is almost no difference between the nix and the typhoon anymore in terms of flux. 4 guns, sz2 shields, ability to turn.
The dragon has its uses, but I never got used to taking so much damage in a fight. I wonder if I could do multi shark in it, though. |

vorlon31 is right.
There is no ship comparable to dragon when you want to kill fluxxes. It's easy to handle and it got all the firepower you need to kill fluxx fast enough so they don't eat your shields. However, this doesnt make it a pvp ship. To solrain: theres no solrain squad around atm. sad fact. I'd not say that this is caused by ship imbalance. Tens is formidable ship in group engagements and mf is quite a killer 1on1. HF is as useless as dragon in group engagements. in fact I see a slight imbalance in pvp at the moment, not towards oct but favouring quant mf. |

The thing for me is that I dont seem to look at Jumpgate with the same eyes as the majority. When I talk of dragon imballance I am looking at it purely from the fluxing side, where my RP and interest lies. And on that score on firepower alone the D stands out head and shoulders above the others.
pvp for me is a black art and probably always will be because the ship I choose as my prefered one to fly, lacks power and glows in the dark like a big white triangle. A decent (read experianced pvp) pilot may be able to beat a dragon easily 1v1 but I bet they would beat a monsoon or an intruder far far quicker and have more armour left at the end. |
