Strangers in a strange land.
I was pondering to myself last night about what it would be like to return to Jumpgate. It's been about a year since I got burninated. I would probably have to start a new pilot since my password was changed in order to enact the non-banning ban.
![]() But then I got to thinking. I have no squad anymore, it's dead even it I was still a part of it. And there doesn't seem to be anyone playing that I played with during my three years prior. I look at that and it doesn't seem like fun. Even though I was in the same situation when I first played, I don't cherish the thought now. Perhaps that's why I don't dwell long on the thought of returning. Perhaps a game vacated of the fun memories of past exploits isn't as apealing as something yet unexplored. Perhaps there are many others that ponder returning and come to the same end. *shrugs* |

The problem is that it is exactly this kind of attitude that keeps the numbers suppressed. Imagine if you took all of the people who thought or said "I'd come back if there were more people on" and added them into the online numbers. I suspect we'd AT LEAST be in the neighborhood of 150+ pilots online during prime-time.
Take the plunge! |

Speaking of a strange Land.
Jump, I am thinking of changing my Radio Station from the MACK Theme to a Game Network theme. Would you have a issue if I created a advertisement for this web Site. My listener level has leveled out and I have regular listeners but may lose them with this change. I am planning on changing the musical theme over to Ambient/Electric game type background music |

IMO, in Jumpgate, online numbers correlates directly with enjoyment value. Now, of course, flying online with 400 of the "worlds greatest wankers" would not be fun ... but I'm assuming a "normal distribution" here.
But the fact remains: many, many (many, many) people have written in one forum or another that they would reactivate if there were more people around. My point is simply that there would be more people around (lots) if all of those people who said this simply activated. |

Well, it's not their responsibility to make the game survive. They just want to unwind after a hectic day and have some fun. Really, it's the game publisher and developer who have the responsibility to make the game fun and viable, or pull the plug.
I think in Jumpgate we have a unique situation that has never existed before. While Jumpgate has lots of issues, it had the perfect setup for developing community. At the same time, the fact that it was not turned off after the loss of a publisher is quite unique. It has been on life support for some time now. I think allot of the problems with online numbers has been the result of us in the community just not accepting the fact that not too much was going to happen with the game without a publisher. There has been too much emotional debate over which direction the game should take, when it was barely going to hang onto life. Too many people have left in anger. I won't even get into the themis debacle. Even now, people still attack each other with insults and such. They have run out of game issues, I guess, and have moved onto politics and world affairs as the basis for attack. It's sad to see the rift get worse and worse and the online numbers go down. Who wants to "take the plunge" into all that? Yet still, I think about it and wonder.... |

You're missing my point. My "take the plunge" advice was for people who said "I would play if more people were online." I was not suggesting that people who had issues with the game should overcome their issues and return (though that would be nice, too).
I don't know how much Themis gets paid, but they have been a debacle. In retrospect, ND would have done much better to simply try to hire a couple of part-time community-managers/event GMs. My whole point is about the catch-22 created by low numbers and those who decide not to play solely because of the low numbers. |

Well, you know how I feel about Hijacks.
![]() I'm not sure I understand your question bud. Perhaps a detailed email might enlighten me. I have a nasty headache and have had a miserable day with doctors. I'll be having surgury in a couple weeks so I'll have lots of time for reading and coding. ![]() |
