The people who never tried it don't want to because A) They don't want to buy a joystick B) They already play an MMO and don't have time for another C) The graphics are very outdated..It was a combination of the three answers, not like person A, B, and C or something.

The person I did get to try it doesn't want to play again. His reason for leaving is the same reason he won't come back, the people who play are far too skilled for him to even hope to PvP with. Maybe if Jumpgate Evolution gets a large player base he may attempt it, but like he pointed out, why should he bother spending all the time and effort putting together a ship if he's gonna get blown up by someone who's been playing for 7 years as soon as he launches....I.E. no new blood in the game means no one of his skill level, not that he was getting ganked.
What? does he want to be the "BESTEST" the first time he launch and kill 3 pilots with one shot..maybe he needs A BIG RED WINBUTTON! omg..

Anyway, its true ppl wont even try when they see graphics. Its like asking someone to date some ugly chick instead of Miss Universe.. even if ugly chick has personality..

No, he's not trying to be the best. Simply competitive. There's really no point in trying to learn to fly PvP against people who have been playing for most of the time the game has been around. He wants to be able to get in game and be competitive, not get in game and have to level up shooting at PvE things or running missions just so he can fly a ship that he can even START to learn PvP with. That's not to mention having to learn the PvP aspect of flying which I'm sure would be a significant time investment.

So you can make an asinine comment like that but I'm just trying to help by relaying the opinion of someone who DID try it and DIDN'T stick around till the end of time. How are you trying to help in a thread about how to raise online numbers? Instead of posting something constructive like "did you ask him X, or tell him about Y" you're telling me what someone I asked about his experience wants without knowing anything about him, his playstyle, games he likes, etc.

Yes, but isn't this just more of the old Jumpgate "catch-22?" If your friend and others like him joined the game in any numbers, then they would be able to compete with the other novices. Isn't the issue of competing with "aces" (or uber-rich merchants) really the same in any game?Who you compete against would be you're "cadet class" -- but since there are no cadet classes because everyone is afraid that they will not be able to PvP competitively . . . {shrug}

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?

Sentient's.

Played right, with imagination and thought for the differing flux classes and the uses to which they may might be put would boost Jumpgate Classic player numbers upwards for sure.

Online numbers always rise after sentient activity.

I think this is because it is an opportunity to fight an unusual and unidentifiable enemy, one who you know wont POD, smack talk you on f5 for downing him/her/it and or hold you, your squad and your dog to ransom for ever more just for shooting it.

People log in when there is fun, log out when there isnt and Sentients bring fun to pvp and pve and life beyond the players.

I am a firm believer that Sentient Conflux being used to create dynamic events in Jumpgate Classic, beyond the norms and outside of the box can make a HUGE difference to online numbers.

Its one of the few things I would put money on.

Yeah, they just try to kill you. Hehe.

Real sent fights are a riot. But they're just PvP against uber ships, so "fluxers" and such tend to do poorly. I remember when I would field a nova nix against them, lol.

In some of the later fights I got the distinct impression they didn't like me though. Damn griefers

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?

I've gotten my share of sentient kills in spite of not being a PvPer. I'd probably have done better if the past year (not that there were all that many sent raids) I hadn't been operating with an ancient JS.

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?

My suggestions would be to get rid of the mining econ foundation and add spawned ore/water/grain at different stations , boost the production levels, then add a commod/equip decay system and finally finish the MT patch.

Oh, and like Ambro said add more players. Graphics update would be nice but for me it doesnt do anything for gameplay.

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?

It could just as easily be a bunch of renegades who stole TRI Enforcer ships as it is Sents. People are just starved for SOMETHING different to do and SOMETHING remotely like official events and/or storyline.

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?

I'll disagree with you once again. TRI enforcers with renegades in them would not have the same impact across all play styles. Un communicative aliens would though.
