Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
The effectiveness of an event upon players is proportional to how often they occur. If something is up all the time they will not have the same huge draw as using them sparingly. Instead of being "I've GOT to get in game to see this" it becomes "I'll see the next one".
Though, of course, the best course is a constant stream of low intensity events leading up to huge ones every so often. |

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
Did someone mention a W.O.W (Weekend Of War), they were never part of the EU scene but I used to come over to the US server when I heard they were on. Some of the best times I had in Jumpgate. Unfortunately the MT system means they are a thing of the past, one of the best examples of player driven and developed fun has been removed from the game by the unfinished MT system.

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
Finish the MT patch that will allow multi-faction squads to operate again. While the current version of the MT patch has screwed up things for a lot of people, the basic idea of PvPers being able to make money by fighting for their faction is a good one.
Un-nerf the tow, it hurts nothing and adds a lot back to the game. Fix the game so it doesn't crash so often (perhaps it HAS been fixed, I haven't seen so many 'unscheduled' crap this week). Revisit the bounty system so Tritian, Liet and others of their tribe can come back to play their nasty little games and mug people they meet. Seriously, rules that keep people from playing need to be closely examined. Perhaps only a portion of the bounty should be provided by the bountied pilot. I don't care for the P.O.D. lifestyle, but mine is a minority opinion. |

Come on guys. The game is old and boring. Why would they invest in it when it's gonna die as soon as Jumpgate Evolution goes beta anyway.

Luke you probably missed it but they have said they will keep it online as long as anyone is playing it. Even after Jumpgate Evolution goes online.

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
OK I'm a bit late (as usual)...
Keeping Jumpgate Classic up is not a good management measure. It can possibly remove 20 or 30 (online) players from Jumpgate Evolution and that would hurt it at least at the start. On the other hand, making it an access portal for Jumpgate Evolution beta could have positive effects, specially with the old player base. Not so much for new people as it would probably drive them away from Jumpgate Evolution - let's face it, JC has horrible graphics by today's standards and the learning curve is extemely steep. I'd suggest they simply open up Jumpgate Classic in the month prior to Beta and make a few (easy) adjustments: A) repair tows (for the non PvP crowd) B) tweak/clean the station/POS inventories so that people could have something to do C) improve mining yelds (1000x if needed) so that players could rebuild station stocks D) set up a PvP event with some RP on the side E) set up a flux-related event F) launch a new set of Faction Missions leading up to the opening of the Beta I'm sure A and C would require minimal coding efforts - 2 hours for both maybe, including generating the required patch. B, E and F are doable through GM tools - call it 10 hours of seting it up. Mass mailing for former players inviting them in for the "Golden Month" (free or otherwise) - 3 hours If ND decides to make it free, customer support could simply reactivate all the known accounts as they are (not paying atention to POS problems and such and this could be mentioned in the inviting mail to prevent choking up customer support). Beta keys could be handed out to players that flew a number of missions or only to those that were active (read PAYING) before the event went live depending on the intended number of players for Beta. Seing as there's not much free time on ND's team a few universally respected players could lend a help with the planning part. I'd recommend contacting : - Baadf00d and Timski for the economical (include tow stats repair) side. - Karash for the RP side (the PvP event and possibly the FM's) I'm sure everyone would agree that these are exceptional players that have made oustanding contributions to Jumpgate and are competent. |
