Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
This thread is to brainstorm ways for ND to get some life back into Jumpgate Classic especially if they plan on keeping it around when Jumpgate Evolution is released.
I say, lower the monthly fee or get rid of it, and support the game with in game billboard advertising. If that is not possible, hire more programmers and upgrade Jumpgate Classic side by side with Jumpgate Evolution and give them equal amount of love. Ideas? |

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
I think the most likely occurance would be that they would include Jumpgate Classic in with the Jumpgate Evolution subscription and watch the numbers from there. If the classic server does well compared to the evolution servers, more work will be put into it.

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
To me, the only way to bring Jumpgate Classic to life is by bringing back old names into activity, which is likely not to happen since it would require them actually playing.
I mean, if some folks see names like: (not in order) CobraMac, @zmyth, Karash, The_Tyke, Tesrend, Valen, Aubrey, Ridgeway and/or Raiderr and Lothar.... Im sure many folks would go like crazy to see what the hell is going on. Wish my CC would arrive... Im so desperate on taking the dust off my x45 ![]() The other way would to do the small fixes many folks have asked, like tows returned to pre-nerf status and emall changes to the economy.... and Id think numbers would get better. Another factor that could affect it, which may be tied to those famous names, is to see the old famous squads back in action and in numbers. I know its not fun to see 12 OV's online while you being the only quant MT pilot in there (I use squads as an example), but on the other hand, would be worse if OV was never there for a fight to happen. I guess it all goes back to the bad feeling of being ganked by so many. If squads would voluntarily send less numbers but not necesarily equal numbers (after all they are all active and they shouldnt be penalized for being active), split your forces between sol and quant space (for the OV example, same for say either QH or STARS) and regroup if either faction numbers grow. To me, one of the things that helps is having sol and quants at war, which I dont know hows going since I've been away for now 2 months, and a lil' bit more Id say. The issue is complicated, solutions are available but there arent perfect solutions for Jumpgate Classic. ELP |

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
I don't think the game should be dropped down to a free monthly charge, mostly because any ad company looking at it is going to say, you have 'that many' online people at once and you expect me to pay HOW MUCH to have an ad in your game?!?!'. I'd definitely strongly consider lowering the monthly fee, if for no reason than that it is getting no maintenance other than pilot account support (when the system works) and server restarts when it crashes, with a bit of stability debugging. The GMs taking turns showing up in game for 30 minutes a week might help a little bit too, especially if they do a bit of flying
. Also, I'd really love it if we had an event/RP/all GM putting in 10 hours a week even. 5 prep, 5 online. Any little bit we get sure can't hurt imo. |

Make the game free.
Update graphics. Fix the broken aspects of the game (like the tag system) and scrap all the bandaid fixes for real fixes. E-mail the previous subscriber base when finished. Just a few potential ideas. I doubt any of this will take place though. |

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
We already got the new net code bolted on from Jumpgate Evolution. Assuming Jumpgate Evolution actually started out as an upgraded Jumpgate Classic (a fair assumption I reckon) then cant the graphics also be bolted on?
Of course then all the current ships/stations would have to be re-modeled so its hardly minimal effort but it should be do-able. How much that would boost on-line numbers I'm not sure, but it would see some drift back in game. Smeg |

Punish those who exploit and cheat more quickly. That's why I have been rarely online recently.
Oh, and OV do regulary send less numbers to fight sols, only to be outnumbered when the shoe is on the other foot. Quants made their bed, they can lie in it. Regards Al |

Re: Is there anything ND can do to raise the online numbers?
I think a free "Reunion Week" capped, perhaps, by another Weekend of War would draw a lot of people . . . but I would hold off on doing this until shortly before the opening of Jumpgate Evolution beta to create buzz.
