With all due respect vorlon.. that won t work.
If a team of devs just puts up some variety of equiment without too much effort in balancing, it will be just boring. The playerbase is agile and fast. After a short time the ideal setups would be known and everyone would fly them. No variety.. just monoculture. If you want variety and equally viable choices, there has to be carefull adjusting inside a limited system. Making everything possible will make it too comlicated to balance. I again refer to S2 shields.. when EVER has ND achieved to set up characetistics for those shields to make more than one of them being widely used? Never! ... as Ambrosius said before.. it s difficult enough with the restraints in sizes we do have. |

The Haven still works.
Sure the Defier needed a nerf, but whoever came up with the current stat (you know who you are) was on powerful drugs. Or was an Oct or Sol. |

I'd wager whoever came up with the figure, or agreed with it wasn't an active player and didn't get what they were talking about.

Testers test and make suggestions -- not decisions. Often times suggestions differ (can you imagine that, JGers disagreeing?).
IMO having an over-nerfed Defier is probably better than having an over-the-top Defier, even though it does not have a lot of impact on me personally. The biggest impact is on Pest pilots who already have a best-in-class ship. |

From what others have said, the idea of x slots seemed to work out all right for MechWarriors, although admittedly it was a single player game rather than what we have here. You talk about boring though Vortex and what do we have as it is? How much actual variation is there between ships of a class? Is there any difference in faction ship loadouts? (yes, but not a heck of a lot beyond weapons choice). I'm not even sure there shouldbe balance among ships, but I'm not a PvPer so "balance" is less important to me than "utility" and "suitability to task".
