What (if anything) should be done about POS?
While I hate TRI-C POS, particularly ancient ones, just a couple of threads down you can see how WileCoyoT might not have come back if his POS wasn't still there after 2 years absence. Do you think something should be done about TRI-C POS, or that they should be left in space awaiting their owners return?

Personally I think they should be left there. This server does not relly heavily on the use of POS, well not as much as the EU server and looking at sectors they don't seem as conjested. It's only really a required thought if we start running out of space and empty POS from dis-used accounts are causing hassle for those still paying and playing...

Well turning upkeep back on is one solution, but everyone screams when you mention it.
Other options are being discussed as well. This is a two edged sword since, as we know, many Jumpgaters leave and find their way back. They are even more inclined to come backl if they know they have not lost their POS. From the simulationist point of view, it kinda sucks, but from the business POV, it makes a lot of sense. For whatever reason, Scorch's vision was to have space filled with POSes from the beginning -- a vision I always questioned. I personally believe the who idea behind the POS -- function, economics (initial and upkeep), graphics -- needs to be revisited. There are SO many things on the development plate, though, who knows when this can realistically be addressed. |

If POS upkeep were enabled and the life of my station were threatened as a result (I think my wallet in-game could handle three, maybe four cycles at the original rates) I think I would cancel my account. I haven't played in months but I still pay just to know that I can jump on whenever I want and play. If my POS were removed that would basically kill any further interest in playing, since usually when I'm coming on I rarely am wearing the ship for the task I had felt inclined to do, and my POS provides me with an instant changing room.
I'm not sure how much more revenue they're getting to that effect, but as it was pointed out, the ability to come back at any time and have your stuff intact is a huge draw. But as a business practice the question remains whether it is beneficial or not to let your customers come and go whenever they want like that. Knowing that a POS would be systematically deleted after, say, 3 months of TRI-C, how many people who are currently not paying would be doing so just to keep their POS available. |

Personally, I think they should disapeer from view. Anyone tries to put a station there they simply get the "You can not put that here" message. Owner starts paying again, poof it's back in view.

It was hardly a perfect system, but the game has never once felt the same as it did pre-ep2. From the first few days flying in EoR against ISU post patch, something was lost. Anyway...absolutely nothing can be done about that now. |
