Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
Jumpgate Evolution is as much an upgrade to Jumpgate classic as Everquest 2 is an upgrade to Everquest (Or Lineage 2 being an 'upgrade' to Lineage).

It'd help if requests for beta would actually respond, even with an automatic "We'll get with you" message. I've applied several times with no response. Guess I'll have to outwait Ambro on the "I win!" button.

I would imagine JG1 will go offline 1-2 months after evolution goes live. Jumpgate Classic is too player dependent on active players to keep bases equiped. I guarentee Jumpgate Classic will be a ghost server starting launch date of Jumpgate Evolution. |

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
Leave it alone. As long as people are willing to pay for accounts there anyway. IF Jumpgate Evolution is as popular as we all hope it will be, then the fate of Jumpgate Classic will be a self-resolving situation.

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
At the very least the jossh squad and pilot database should be frozen and kept visible if Jumpgate Classic does cease to exist
I can still go look at my eu squadpage now if I want to; Jumpgate(TM) - Squad Homepage (I hope it doesnt cease though, I wish for them to go open source with the server code and a mod the Jumpgate exe to allow you to log into to any player run server you know the ip of, that would rock). |

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
Open source sounds all fine and dandy, but I really don't see it working out... there's not enough people to support it unless you just mod it into your own flux killing game...
And Xbox LIVE arcade version of Jumpgate isn't a bad idea though... as a promotional tool anyway. Just some silly game with flux or something, like Geometry Wars or something. But yeah... Jumpgate Evolution is going to need players and if you leave Jumpgate Classic up and running, ESPECIALLY if it's free, then that will detract from Jumpgate Evolution's success. Plus, everyone will make tons of griefer accounts... :P |

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
Again, perhaps I am just dense maybe, but since it is an UPGRADE as has been said, then it will REPLACE the current version of jumpgate and make this discussion a waste. Perhaps I am just not getting where you guys are coming from.

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
Im not sure why this is suprising. At first mention, Jumpgate Evolution was going to be a graphics upgrade. Now there is all this speculation about different ships and things of that nature. But even with that aside, in other games I have played, there have been upgrades and patches galore. Even whole new expansion packs. And not in one of them (in my experience) instituted any kind of server wipe. You just downloaded and installed the expansion and kept on truckin. Why does this have to be any different?

Because this lot have a unjustified inferiority complex to McP's billions and would get a slightly dodgy glow seeing him stripped of them.
They forget the curse of the rich when they talk of him being able to buy whole factions up and of him crashing the galaxies economies with his credits. The curse of the rich is that the rich do not want to spend it. You don't get rich spending credits, you just try to get richer. |

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?
It doesn't have to be any different, but I haven't seen anything to indicate it was going to be anything like other games. To me, it seems like they cancelled work on Jumpgate and transferred Istvan over to their new game.
