About This Page About This Page: This is a discussion on What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic? within the Jumpgate Chat forums, part of the Jumpgate TRI Discussions category, at Joystick Required Forums. This chestnut again? So when you started playing Elite:Frontier did you still retain your Elite status from the previous game? Would have made playing the second a bit pointless.

This chestnut again?

Its a different game, it has a different name, different ships, different map etc, etc. And I never played WWS much so care not one jot for McP's billions.

On topic I would love to see Jumpgate Classic go open source and the player run server idea but it wont happen. Pity, would make a cool shoot em up.

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?

What they should do with Jumgate Classic is to fill it with all the WINBUTTONS requested over the last several years, so everyone can be uber-rich, have uber-aim, be uber-fast and be perfectly safe any time they want -- then, after three months, double the monthly subscription rate.

EDIT: . . . and also un-nerf the Tow speed!

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?

Making it open source would be a great way to keep it alive, even if they don't make money off of it anymore. That's assuming Evolution is not just an expansion/upgrade and instead is a completely new MMO.

Good ones, Vorlon! Let me add one more...

Let us fly flux ships. What do you have to lose at this point?

Okay Vorlon. Let's not forget docking module on POS's, for the owner if no one else!

On a serious note, they definitely should keep Jumpgate Classic up and running for at least the first year of Jumpgate Evolution's commercial coming out. IF Jumpgate Evolution is as wonderful and successful as we all hope it will be, then what to do with Jumpgate Classic will be moot, simply because no one will WANT to play it anymore. IF it's not... Jumpgate Classic would still leave us something to play with.

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?

Have we had any news on this subject yet from netdevil? As in, will Jumpgate Classic defo be killed by Jumpgate Evolution?

I ask because to be honest, while part of me is totally looking forward to Jumpgate Evolution and its new toys, a bigger part of me is saying;

It was Jumpgate Classic that captured me.
It was Jumpgate Classic that held me in its universe.
My loyalties lie with Jumpgate Classic.
My character exists with Jumpgate Classic.
I like Jumpgate Classic.
I still log in regularly to play Jumpgate Classic, even with this sword dangling above its head.
I've spent well over half a decade playing as the bugs and gripes were slowly worked out of the system (while others were worked in (bad, bad GMI and his tow nerfs!)).

and I am left asking;

Do I really, truly, honestly want to face that entire bug fest all over again? Its taken 6 years to get Jumpgate Classic to where it is and although far from perfect, it is the game I love to play.

I want to log in and play in a persistent universe, not one who's persistence lasts only until its usurper comes along or until the next development phase wipes over the games past.

The bottom line is, I at least, still want to play the game Ive played. I like it and I don't think that taking a gamble on something new, is worth loosing all that is Jumpgate Classic if it can be avoided.

Id rather see a better looking tensy than no tensy, a more varied content than an entirely new one. Maybe Im getting too long in the tooth now for starting out in new game with new bugs, maybe my online gaming will at last fall with Jumpgate Classic, I dont know.

Ive fought my personal war vs the flux and I will claim that for my part, I won. Ive killed em all from c0 to 27, from Hives to globules to infests and with my squad and the friends within it we've killed more than I ever thought possible. Maybe its time.

Re: What should Netdevil do with Jumpgate Classic?

Well, if netdevil do terminate Jumpgate classic. And go with just Jumpgate evolution. I think netdevil should give it to me. So I can run a server from my bedroom. HeHeHeHeHe.

The answer to that was given by ND in a recent interview as:

Evolution is the spiritual successor to Jumpgate.

I remember that clearly because it reminded me of Vanguard being called the spiritual successor to Everquest and that made me shiver!!!
