What would it take...

This is especially for those of you who no longer play, but still retain an interest in Jumpgate.. What would it take to get you back in the game and playing more?

Other than "more people" what would it take to get you back into the game or playing more often and longer? I think we all agree we need more folk playing. I also think most of us agree NetDevil would bring in more people if they could.

Speak your minds here. Someone might actually listen.

Real fast:

Intensity balance for Real Space fighting. (Currently it controls an engagement with its extra modx) (Also, the SOLs have no reason to fly anything else in combat)

An economy that works.

POS system revision (There were far too many of them floating around space in the heyday)

A reason for flying Military

A neutral faction that you can join (Along the lines of the EEA alliance or several other player created factions)

A neutral section of space between each of the major empires so that escorts would become a priority

Rebalance of equipment so that each faction could equip their entire ship with only faction based equipment (Although suffering a major performance hit over using multi-factional equipment)

A graphics update

NPC traffic

Radio chatter

Re-work Artifiacts

And a method for actually taking over a sector of space

For starters... that would get me interested.

Just ALOT more people - looked on JOSSH last nite and saw 25 people playing - the only way that will change is with a massive player driven effort to bring back all the old vets from back in the day. Other than that I have NO idea how they can still pay people their salaries to keep this game going.

What got me here today is a neat story: I still play Eve- Online (yes left Jumpgate when Eve was in beta and never went back) and have an account that flys with The Dark Path (still kicking and going stong) - on our boards there was talk of a few guys trying Jumpgate out again but when they found no one else playing they stopped. Now reading this last night I looked up PLANET JUMPGATE and found (you guys here) and a spot on the way back machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/200012042...tjumpgate.com/

6 years to the day -- check out the new members - what luck is that the day it's archived was the day I joined - man were those good days or what -- best fun I have ever had in a game was during Beta 6.

Oh well - all good things must come to an end.

Hmm lets see.....

1. More than one dev.
2. Marketing
3. More in-game content
4. RP GM's or players
5. Graphics update

Themis Group absolutely still runs in-game events, on a weekly basis or more often. Both storyline and non-story events are used to spice things up. Non-story events are usually just fun contests, typically for in-game awards. Storyline events bring any conflicts presently moving in the Jumpgate back story home to the players, on a level players can get directly involved with, and are also used to trigger changes in the game environment, which might involve activating new features added in a prior patch.
Live up to the Hype

Either tell Themis to pull their thumbs out of their collective a***‘s or get some one in to the job right.

How many more times to us the paying customer have to tell you/them this Jumpgate is dead as far as any sort of story line or any events last one I remember was the one at KH when GMK held the jelly fest in celebration of the race.

Last post on Jossh 23/6/06 is it any wonder people pop in then pop out just as quick.

But no lets all just push our heads a bit further into the sand and pretended that its all ok just how much do ND pay Themis to do nothing?

But dare any one say anything or the small minority of players that have their heads up each others, call you a whiner.

Since coming to the server after EU demise I have controlled the largest, most active pvp squad on the server. I did the same on the EU server for the last 4 years.
In the last year+ on US I have been contacted one time that I can remember by a GM regarding RP. Arse and elbow.
Player driven RP only occours if it is "in the interests" of whoever is driving it, otherwise the masses whine.
I'm tired of pointing out that there is no RP on US, just events. Any indication by the dev's to the contrary is just bull.
The game still offers a lot to me besides, simply having more people online is all I would want to improve things. That and maybe getting several GM's that have a clue and are not just power hungry idiots.

Regards
Al

There have been fits and spurts of excellent RP here. But probably have of it was either totally player-driven or at least player-initiated.

But you're right, too many people equate events with RP. Events are much easier than RP. RP generally takes place over more time and requires backstory (i.e. it takes more writing and planning), while events are more short-term coordination.

I imagine this has partially been the result of lack of dedicated manpower. Even with the limited number of story threads, most have been left open:

- What ever happened to Zoe Vexel (the reporter who was doing a Hyperial expose').

- What was the overall impact of the Dorator takeover of PSI and the announced "deal" with Quantar?

- How about that lost planet Solrain?

- It's been over a year since "A strange Illness hit Solriain stations . . ." (that's okay, though, the virus thing was over-done already).

- Wasn't OPL intestigating Injustice [production] options about six months ago?

Ideally, there should be 2-3 story-arcs gong on simultaneously to appeal to differing play styles. The un-closed story threads here alone hold lots of opportunity. But you need an official guiding hand to move things along, even with primarily player-driven arcs.
