I'd say as a unit OV were more efficient. The guys that flew them were of all different abilities(as has always been the case within the squad matrix). As a unit though it was incredibly effective. 4 separate wings on separate TS channels with wingleaders using channel commander, multiple target callers and hierarchy in each wing. I'm not aware of any other group being so complex in preparation or execution.
I guess it is very subjective from my POV to be fair. I have seen many others try to replicate the success to varying degrees but 18 months of total domination created my opinion.

Al

heh sounds pretty much like how OEC used the scout packs. and yes, your views are subjective. you guys came over when the server was already dying down and attrition was a factor. but not to take anything away from OV's overall skill, OEC was just as deadly at full strength with some of the pilots we had.

as for favorite ship, the nix.

I guess we will never know. I was referring to shortly after the Scout patch with 300+ online on EU btw. I don't doubt OEC were a tremendous force.
Would have been interesting back then to have flown together. I'm sure someone could have taught someone something

Al

Re: What is your favorite Jumpgate Classic Ship?

You are all quite wrong.

The single most fun ship was the pre nerf gust.
I still say this nerf did drive away more pilots than every civ ripper and the TOW nerf together. Get us back the old gust and maybe afterwards we can negotiate the unimportant TOW.

Actually after nerf it was quite cool too, specially due to the fact that the artied one I had in my hangar still had the size 2 engines.

I was there, trust me, an OEC scout pack caused many a sol to flee before they even got close.

Re: What is your favorite Jumpgate Classic Ship?

Hmmm two ships really. Currently the Oct HM, Vulture is the best all-a-round ship in anyone's fleet. Two size 5 gun slots, 2 size 4 missile slots and 1 size 5 missile slot, 7 modex slots, size 3 ECM that will mount an Anti-Flux, 260u cargo.

Now the Raptor during a very narrow time slot. Right after the bomber redesign, when it gained up to 36u cargo space from 12u, went down from 5 gun slots to 3 (sz4 and 2 sz3) and the shield when up from sz2 to sz3. Right after the redesign, I took my Craptor from the hanger and discovered It still had the arty sz5 engine, instead of the current 2 sz3's, it had the sz 3 shield, it had 2 flail and 1 hitman (I think) instead of the current 1 sz4 and 2 sz 3 gunslots and the cruise speed was over 650v! (againt, as best as I remember...I know it was faster than an Oct scout on AB). Then there were complaints about PvPers using similar setups and it got nerfed back down to it's current stats. It's still better than it was originally, but not nearly as sweet as it was for that one brief period.

Duh, the Pest with 3 'raks, hands down. It's like flying a mosquito with a mini-gun mounted on it.
