3rd Batt was a little obviously OEC, but it wasn't bad. Nicator in an Invader was also satanic.

I agree that the more anonymous RP squads are more fun to interact with.

Imagine Solrain Vanguard. All the members being OV but flying the easier sol ships.
Lot of squads in Jumpgate history were little more than a group of second accounts rallying together for a month or two of backslapping.

I believe SS means people that were not so obviously other people.

Al

Re: What was your favorite Jumpgate squad & why?

Well the anonymous part is important, but also the "RP" part. To me an RP squad is also about very specific rules of conduct both that are somehow bound to the backstory you develop. For example, here's one that I was involved in a while back that did not really go far -- primarily because of lack of players (both in the squad and for opponents):

Quote:
Backstory: Six young artists, having graduated from [[TRI University]], decide on a whim to become TRI Pilots in order to practice a whole new type of art. They apply using falsified IDs that they obtained through a black-market connection, saying that they want to join the fight against the Conflux menace. The uniqueness of their callsigns escapes the semi-conscious TRI bureaucracy and conversion is scheduled. The young artists know that they are about to make a lifelong commitment – they also suspect that their decision will bring them at least publicity and notoriety . . . and perhaps their ultimate goal: Fame.

Characters:

VanGogh - Oct
Renoir - Sol
Picasso - Quant
Chagall - Oct
Christo - Sol
Warhol – Quant

General ROC

- All accounts will be set up with the password: *******
- Once leveled, we will exclusively fly LFs.
- Once leveled, we will always be HG. We will avoid bounties but will defend ourselves when shot-at. The painting “leader” (described later) should call whether or not to take bounties. We will not hold grudges against those who attack – but should keep note of those who regularly object to our art.
- Once leveled, we will exclusively /home at GBS.
- Objectives will always be completion of a planned “painting”
- We will never begin a painting unless there are three painters flying
- At the beginning of each painting we will have a randomly-selected lead painter, who will assign BCU colors and will establish a design pattern (unless one has been pre-planned). Leadership should rotate and should not always fall to the same person.
- Painters may not fly without their assigned BCU at least in cargo. If the BCU is in cargo and it is pirated, the painter must obtain another one before anyone can continue the pattern.
- We will kill our flux spawn for low-level pilots and miners/haulers whenever possible.
- A painting will be considered destroyed and will be discontinued whenever one of the Painters has been ripped 3X in one session. All painting activity will be stopped. A painting may be discontinued by the leader or when at least three painters cannot continue to fly.
- Painters may not hire mercenary escort.
- Patterns will completely ignore factional boundaries -- the pattern is ALL. In time, we could graduate to “actual impressionist art” patterns where we paint strings of color to make the map a “work of art.”
- If a Painter is downed, all Painters must regroup and continue the pattern, but not necessarily from the spot where it was left off (too easy for maximum gankage).
This is not an example of a great RP or backstory . . . IMO it was just "okay" . . . but to illustrate my point about ROC.

FC
As for the why, like minded people playing the game the way it should be played, for fun, ok not to everyone’s way to play the game or indeed the way we play isn’t to everyone’s idealistic version of the way Jumpgate should be played but hey that’s why their in their squad and we are in Flux Clearance.
