Question What's the difference? (between EU and US)

Hi there fellas,

Most of you here probably won't know me. Except those from the EU who've already signed up (Hi Zaz, Wavey, LaVey, DZ, Mongo and everyone else :P )

I've always been curious though, just what exactly IS the difference between the EU and US servers? I know the RP storyline isn't exactly the same, and that the economy is different, and that there are different rules regarding consentual PvP etc, but there's no one place where one can simply make a comparison between them.

With more and more people probably going to be sign up for these forums over the next few weeks leading up to the 30th June switch off, I thought it'd be good to have a thread where people can sorta glance at the thread and go: ah yeah, I see the difference now.

Considering I've never played on the US, though I'll be moving over for the free transition month if nothing else, I'm not really the best person to start this, so anyone else wanna have a go?

P.S. Bah, no smurf smiley?

Generally people are more willing to fight on the US server than on the EU server, in my experience. Numbers aren't worried about as much as I've seen from EU. Don't get me wrong, people still complain about ganks, and I've had a lot of good even fights on the EU server, but generally I find PvP on US more enjoyable because people don't mind dying quite the same.

... probably because of the abundance of remaining farm cash and the (former) abundance of equipment. While Farm cash won't go away any day soon, equipment shortages may change the way people look at fighting.

While Seph enjoyed this particular aspect, I have always thought that the meaningless of "death" here was a bad thing. But I don't think I am representative of the US PvPing population.

I don't necessarily like meaningless death, but I'd prefer it to mean something in such a way that it's not a huge deal if you die so you don't have to play like they do on EU. I'd rather see a good warfare system in place with sectors that can be taken over, so that way if you die, it's not a big deal because of money, but too much death could cause the loss of a sector owned by your faction.

And yes, I know Istvan is working on the warfare system.

Something interesting has hit my mind..

When the euro players and north american players were seperated away from the different servers, there were two genepools growing the different way.

Now god who knows what will happen when they both collide again.

It'll be a collision of (death does) matter and anti (death doesn't) matter.

I actually meant DeadZombie, but you'll do too

From my experience back on the EU server this last week or so, those who are left are mostly people who are willing to fight, or if non-combatants, at least willing to take fire and be involved in an environment where people are shooting at you.

There seems to be quite a focus on the fighting in this thread though, and to be honest that was the thing I already knew most about.

I'm thinking more about the econ, and the storyline side of things. I've heard bits and pieces, but it'd be nice to hear from those in the know.

Thanks guys,

The economy isn't all CP based like much of the EU economy was, but it is mining based. There are no commodities that are just produced by the station anymore. Players here also tend to have a lot of money because of matt farming.

The EU server had a lot more RP, we've just got one part-time RP GM over here. Player stories are welcome but often no one does it, I guess because they don't have any good ideas, they do have a good idea but aren't good at putting it together as an actual storyline for people to go along with or because they just don't want to put in the effort. For the RP we do get it's a pretty even mix between PvP RP and the Conflux RP.

Thanks, GG!

Note: I've had another issue in the works for a couple of weeks, but was hoping to a) include as much detail as possible on the server consolidation and b) cover the new patch features. I've got to hit the road this weekend (for a few days) but I'm going to try to get another issue out before I leave.

EDIT: Please note, the storyline covered -- and the way in which it is covered -- by Darkspace dispatch is unofficial. Although Istvan contributes a column, the storyline aspects of the newsletter/e-zine are not reviewed or edited by NetDevil or Themis before publication.
