It's important to know that "you" can't be a griefer, because everything you do is for a legitimate reason. Only people you don't like can be griefers.
I'm a griefer.

Does that mean I hate me?

The second there is a Jumpgate police force to hunt down the bounties, I'll retire from bounty hunting. For now, it's my understanding that all of us should do our part to bring civ rippers to justice.

@Wolf - If I understand the current system correctly, the bounty hunter downing the guy with the bounty HELPS him work it off

No, it's not "griefing" -- it's just (IMO) generally cowardly . . . though I do believe in doing it under some specified circumstances.
(IMO) specified circumstances include the bounty guy having multiple HG buddies to protect him from bounty collectors. People that get bounties tend to be pvpers. Pvpers tend to have friends and squadmates that are pvpers.

If bob the guy who doesn't want to pvp get's civved, and civs aren't allowed to hunt bounties he has no recourse. Flying into mr. bounty and his 4 HG friends HG will just get bob ripped again. He probably will if he flies in civ too, but at least he'll be in a fighter this time and the death won't hurt as bad.

Since bob the guy who doesn't want to pvp doesn't want to pvp, people that don't mind pvp occasionally (me) hunt the civ rippers for them.

GG, you don't understand. Joe Civ doesnt get civved by PvPers in PVP wars. He gets civved by griefers. I dont care if you civ bounty hunt them. I care when you ciiv bounty hunt anyone, even those with legitimate bounties. Your just a [not nice fella] about it. No one taking bounties is ludicrous, and I agree that the penalties need to be increased, but you just get your jollies from being a [poo poo face] and then playing ForumGate.

I've said repeatedly I understand sometimes taking a bounty is justified. Carrying one is not, especially now that we have /vouch.

You're very wrong about the jollies thing though. If I actually collected a bounty once in awhile, I might enjoy it, but if you think it's fun repeatedly being downed while trying to collect a bounty, you're wrong. The goal is to annoy the person with the bounty to the point they think "hey, carrying a bounty is annoying" and then they work it off and think twice about taking another one.

You say alot of things, GG, but you've yet to present any evidence that carrying a bounty is in itself "wrong".

All you seem to be doing (by indescriminately hunting bounties) is proving that you're no smarter than the mechanism that assigns bounties.

@SS Bounty messages don't announce pilot names, so there's no way of telling if the bounty is darkgateway is a quant fighting a civ-war with octs, or a griefer.

@Ambro - The RP to hunt all non-quant criminals is just as valid as the one to let 'allies' carry bounties.

So what i'm gathering here is that we don't all agree on how bounties and tags should be handled. i'm excited that we have the energy, ability, and opportunity to debate this long-lamented topic (yet again).

Also, I'm glad we are all able to remain civil and respectful, even if we don't agree with each other. Who's got the next well reasoned, concise, and educational viewpoint?

I think that there should be a modx that fills 2 modx slots of a pirate ship and when equiped by said pirate and he turns on his insights - then the game should drop into a fps/doom3 style mode where the pirate and the freighter plot get to run around the cargo holds and shoot each other till 1 gets fragged and the winner gets both ships, an icecream topped with mint jelly and a cuddly manta stuffit with pot pouri.

You gotta realize that GrimGriz is the same person who thinks that just because someone is HG they are automatically looking for a fight, even if it's an ISU freighter who is clearly hauling. So yea he's going to think that there is no reason to ever carry a bounty and then try to shoot people down who are trying to work off that bounty they shouldn't be carrying, forcing them to carry a bounty longer.

For the record, they only carry it longer if they fight instead of run.

So you want people to sit there and let you kill them? You've gotta be on drugs man, your logic is so rediculously flawed...
