Where do we go from here?
Post your ideas on what the reaction of the US community and ND should be to Mightygames pulling the plug.

Well I would like the idea of a migration but I'm an MG pilot. Not sure what they would move... stats and money... equipment... POS... the more thats moved the harder it is to implement. They should have no problems in archiving te player database and scripting the adding of pilots... as long as the name isn't in use. Eeek that could be an interesting problem.
A server reset will upset more than the people it would attract to the game. The TOS restricting EU players was only in place due to the MG licence... As that expires on the 30th of June, there won't be a restriction to people joining. Lets hope they come up with some good news this week.... DZ |

I think Istvan already stated that server reset will not happen. Although this is rather unusual sitiuation. Still, it would be bad move.
The TOS has been violated (EU players joining US server and vice versa) many times by boh sides. ND would be blind not to alow players from EU to join US server. Close the doors? If ND is gonna do it, they really wanna see Jumpgate gone. Migrating stats is really only choice that makes sence. Other would be simply create lvl 0 or 26 accounts for EU players that wanna switch. |

My opinion was to migrate thier stats and money. I know i would cry if i had to lose all my shineys and such that i've worked hard for.
Server reset imo.. = bad bad idea I think the best way to keep the EU players... would be to incorporate them into what we already have going. Those in favor of a reset.. .there's a button you can click. Just my opinion ~ Regs ![]() |

Speaking from experience, server reset is bad idea.
Also speaking from experience, trying to merge two different servers that effectively have had two different universes with two different timelines would also be a bad idea. For those who care for RP, there will be many conflicts - as the first example that comes to mind, someone from EU who specializes with FF trading would have a historical conflict with the FF shortage in the US server. Even for those who don't RP, conflicts would exist such as fighting styles or equipment combinations that just aren't available in the same quantities in US as EU. Territories would become contested, not through natural game progression (which is good) but by forceful integration (which is bad). Furthermore, assets like POS would be impossible to merge since undoubtedly both servers have many POSs duplicated in very similar spots because of their convenience. Merging the two player databases would make for a very rocky transition, quite possibly very alienating to the US players as the new players try to lay claim on their turf overnight (literally, given the time zones). With all these things considered, I still agree that just telling the EU folk "tough luck" would also be a bad move and would alienate many of them. The best move, in my opinion, would be to offer EU players over level 26 a commissioned pilot, either free (best way to attract the new players) or at discount, including credits and PR that would normally be included. This would allow them to start over with creating a new life and new pilot in our new universe, but would allow them to avoid wasting time on the level treadmill. |

Exploits on the EU server tended more towards artifacts (bugs that generated arties and some questionable gear "gimmes" primarily) than cash. EU GMs were pretty ruthless in squashing farms (a policy with which I can't say I have much of a problem, personally).

I agree on the level/money/stuff. POS of course could present more problems also, with conflicting locations. So basically, transfer what it can be done, and leave the rest out. Oh, make sure they understand that F5 chat is english mainly
not everyone understands german and even I have to do english, so why couldnt them? ![]() ELP |

My suggestion would be to take the stations, and any stocks in said stations and convert them back to credits, which would then be moved with the pilot. Then the pilot can, in turn, re-establish his station to his/her liking and restock the station.
Regarding the RP, that is a bit harder IMO. It would require a little bit of understanding I think from every party in the game for a little bit, so that everyone can get themselves established in what would be our new universe. It may not be a bad idea to take most of the GM-driven RP stuff and kinda OOC spin a few things to clean things up. Then we would almost be starting fresh. I realize that is bad form, but it may be worth thinking about given the context of the situation. |
