Despite the premise of those that don't come here, posting and discussion are allowed here, in case you didn't know.

Speaking solely for myself, I thought the tows were long overdue for some trimming back, though I am willing to entertain an argument that the trimmage was too severe. It was totally ridiculous that the heavy hauler of the time, while empty, could outrun or at least keep pace with the fighter class ships, even ignoring the extra flashfires of the Quant and Oct tows (and the Sol tow being matched only by the Intensity in total possible FF loadout).

As for Solrain's current condition, I don't really have any suggestions besides "fly for the faction". I do know that munchkin ships like the old Tense (even before getting artied up with old-style PCE-3s) and Alpaa-shielded 'Cuda aren't the answer, though.

Why was that so problematic? Griefer tows?

The tows at their old speeds were survivable to an extent, just like frieghters are now. They weren't freebie kills like they are now...killing a lightly laden 6/7FF Condor would be a decent challenge.

I do not know why but Aslan in his tow is at least one reason why tow should have been nerfed.

Because Aslan at v400 would have been less able to /home strip EE than Aslan at v450?

He rarely lived.

Oddly, I agree with SingleShot. It's a fundamental design flaw to make non-pvp ships little more than victims in a pvp game, particularly without a built in system to encourage and reward escorts. The problem is further magnified by the jumpgate choke points, because in other genres the non-com ships have the opportunity to try to slip in and out of areas.

I think the tow nerf was a mistake as well. I don't think it was brought about by the test team (who we can blame for putting a tow shield on a fighter), the tow nerf was part of Istvan's plan for the new economy.

However, I also disagree with those thinking that the nerfed tow killed Solrain. The tug is a better hauling ship whether you are hauling light or heavy. You can haul more faster with a tug full of even low mass items...that is to say that 2 tug trips is faster than 3 tow trips, so units per minute will always favor a tug.

The tensy was not nerfed.

Solicidal, with all due respect, was a multi-factional squad based out of LL. DE lacked PvP aces, the presence of which in your fleet allows PvP veterans (of which they had several) to really perform well (I'm a much more effective pilot with SS on my wing than with Ambro on my wing). I say neither of these facts as a slam on those squads; I'm just saying that is how it was.

The tow nerf was a mistake for sure. As for Solrain ships not being worth flying, I would completely disagree. The vader is a sweet ship, and the tensy still owns.

PvP IMO got boring though when everyone started flying in MFs or LFs. I'd say that is partially why a lot of the PvPers left. It's why I left anyway. I just didn't find it fun to "fight" in the same sector and only see one or two deaths before both fleets retreated back to their POS (and both fleets usually had a POS a sector away from the sector the fight was in). That was my last PvP experience anyway, maybe it's gotten better since then. I just didn't find it enjoyable.

I agree with Seph on the extreme dullness of fighting over the same 2 sectors all night every night, with most pilots of both fleets surviving the fights. But the only way to make it enjoyable is for more people to log in and not fly pansey ships and /home further away than 1 sector. Also, real Sols flying out of Solrain instead of unreg would probably help with the latter.

Thats pretty much what I said 6 months ago when I posted a thread on jossh forums 'Suggestions & ideas' about ways to nerf the involvement POS have in PvP because of exactly that.

But of course it got shouted down by the 'OHNOES! It takes megaskillz to dock a MF' brigade. Oh well, too late now...
