As a 3 year pvp vet, virtually no one who gets beaten calls the person who beat them a cheater. A ganker yes...even if it's 1v1 and you lose it's a gank. The only time I've seen "cheater" called loudly is with the PoGBS and that was by a very diverse group of pilots.
As to EU affecting us here, if I were on the EU and saw a new account named Rollio, I would not discount that person's history on the US server out of hand. I didn't comment on Filzi because I don't know him. All I said is that the Liet comparison does not fit. I'll be giving him a fair shot at becoming a part of the US in good standing, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I will also be watching things like FF count vs accuracy and kill range pretty closely. As WB pointed out, we have virtually no GM coverage compared to EU so we must police ourselves. Cautious optimism. |

I have nothing against the guy personally. He seemed nice enough on TS during wow. His ammo accuracy is absolutely ridiculous. I don't care. The thing of it is, I hate PoD piracy (cool that bounties can't get gives now...) and since he's been banned from EU and is about to start griefing civs....there will be whinage, and drama. I just don't understand why he couldn't start an octavian hauling squad.

Grim, it's just against the mind-set of Octavians to do more than casual hauling (post farming anyway). Same for Oct miners. How many of us do you count?
Historically, Octavians seem to be the Germans of this universe, in as much as we start wars, fight brilliantly and lose every darned one. Like the French, we are only able to defeat ourselves, yet we try to maintain the mystique of some warrior race ala Klingons or earthly Romans or even Vikings. Actually the Viking analogy is probably closest.. disorganized, uncouth, valiant fighters, etc. anyway, don't expect Octs to mine or haul..it just ain't right nor fitting.. |

Darn Jump, you beat me to it! G.O.D. has 13 members of which only two are *NOT* TRI-C. So noh, they are basically not playing any more; about like OAS in my opinion. (no offense Hathor!)
As to Elpirata, while he's on temporary hiatis, he is one of the few major Octavian miners still in the game. I consider myself to belong to that rare group as well. I haul, mine and swat fluxies in game. I leave the combat stuff to Chubain, Firestorm and Linnux. |

Filzi is cool. I've flown against him a lot and yes he has great ammo aim, he has never used more FFs then what would be normal and doesn't have any lag worse than the usual EU on US server lag.
I still believe that if Liet were in his prime he would beat Filzi in a duel. I watched them duel recently (Liet is super rusty), and Liet still armored Filzi pretty good. PoD piracy is fine IMO and is here to stay. |

We did, however, have access to any equipment at any unreg station, but this was limited to certain requirements which were sanctioned by netdevil. |

For those who weren't around, The Pirates of GBS was a RP squad sponsored and supported by the 3DO GMs. They were "bad guys" based out of GBS and flew into all kinds of odds. The outcry was that PoGBS pilots had GM-type "powers" for equipping ships and the ability to relaunch quickly without re-equipping.

My two cents... I talk to filzi .. daily... yes he's young 22... so fast reflexes... he's spent hours and hours in the sim over on the EU ... of course he's going to be skilled. If you look at his stats from the EU which he gave me a link to, his gun accuracy was only 21% ... what does that prove... he was a n00b once, and he learned to be an accurate pilot. I've watched Mcbrmx down him before, so it's not like he's invisible... he is uber.. yes!... but he's not invinsible... He's never lagged while i'm with him, which was another accusation that EU had, that he had a lag cheat. Just judge him how you see him; he's truely a great guy AND he has an uber Austrian accent!

Roy, it's quite possible that some PoGBS members misused thier powers and others did not. I remember seeing one screen shot where a New Dawn guy was hitting a PoGBS with novas and nothing was happening.
Everyone else, among the powers PoGBS had was the ability to /home at unreg stations, and this was a patch or 2 before anyone else could do so. PvP vets of several factions and non-factionalists found certain members of PoGBS to not take damage when they shot them. After flying against ultra-laggy pilots like LittleJohn who formerly had extreme lag due to a satelite internet connection, I found similar things to happen with him as happened with PoGBS. So, it's also quite possible that certain PoGBS members had nasty dialup connections and/or were stuffing their upload or something, or were using uber shields. PoGBS also came into existence and claimed all of unreg as their own just about a week after a big PvP group had claimed all of unreg space as their home (sort of a forerunner to ISU). Since they could /home and others could not, PoGBS totally trampled TheRapists' RP attempt. It was a very unfortunate occurance because the very nasty public outcry against PoGBS soured NetDev from the idea of ever using volunteer pilots to fly RPCs again. The idea was really sound, it just happened at the wrong time and in the wrong way. |
