It's funny, I'd never heard of it until two days ago, but apparently it's the Friday after Thanksgiving which signals the beginning of Christmas shopping for many US citizens. The reason it's called Black Friday is because it signals the time when a shop's balance sheet goes from red back in profitablility, or in the black.
Back in the 1939, in order to boost the economy which was still suffereing the effects of the Great Depression, Roosevelt decided that Thanksgiving should bought a week forward, effectively moving Black Friday forward a week, it didn't work but he tried again in the 1940 anyway before a law was passed to ensure Thanksgiving always fell on the fourth Thursday in November. Hmm, maybe I should start thinking about Christmas shopping as well. |

The local mall is opening at 1am with all sorts of crap that you can have if you are one of the first 10 zillion idiots through the doors.
I hope the people lining up at 12:45 spontaneously start to moo. that'd be about right. |

I shop whenever I feel like it. Usually, its when the mood strikes at 3 am when I can't sleep. Who needs stores? I shop online. I wouldn't even try to go near a store today here. This place can get a little rowdy.
